Brendan Lestina, Rachel Haack earn Press-Citizen's Athlete of the Week Honors
Iowa City High tennis player Brendan Lestina and discus thrower Rachel Haack were voted by readers as the Iowa City Press-Citizen's Athletes of the Week for April 22-28.
Lestina earned boys Athlete of the Week with 64% of the vote. Iowa City West track runner Aidan Jacobsen earned 20% of the vote, placing second.
Lestina, a junior, earned a close singles win during City High's 5-4 victory over Liberty. He pulled off the win in three sets (5-7, 7-5, 10-8).
Haack earned girls Athlete of the Week with 85% of the vote. Iowa City West tennis player Sophia Singh placed second with 9% of the vote.
Haack, a sophomore, took home fifth place in the girl's discus at the Drake Relays. Her throw of 135 feet, 7 inches guided her to a top-five finish at the Blue Oval.
