Colorado reportedly in serious discussions regarding move to Big 12
The Pac-12 Conference has still yet to land a new media rights deal. Furthermore, the Colorado Buffaloes could very well be headed back to the Big 12.
On Wednesday, reports surfaced that CU has been in discussions about potentially rejoining the Big 12. Plus, there is a scheduled Big 12 meeting coming in which expansion is expected to be the topic, per Pete Thamel of ESPN.
Nothing is official yet, but the latest reports surely make it seem like the Buffs are going to leave the Pac-12 and join the Big 12 after months and months of rumors.
There’s plenty to take away from this, and here’s a quick look at the reports that surfaced on Wednesday:
Sources: Colorado is in discussions about a move to the Big 12, and the school has just completed a board meeting and scheduled another for tomorrow to discuss the move. The Big 12 is also holding a presidents meeting tonight where there's expected to be an expansion update.

There's no agenda posted yet. But the meeting tomorrow at Colorado is called a "Special Board Meeting" and was scheduled essentially as today's "athletics operations" executive session board meeting ended. https://t.co/JsGocKMKGP

Source: #CUBuffs AD Rick George met with the Big 12 reps in person at least twice in recent months. President/chancellor as well.
Second Regents meeting tomorrow at 3 p.m. Sooooooo much smoke. #GoBuffs #Skobuffs #Pac12 #Big12

Barring any unexpected hiccups, the #CUBuffs are indeed on the move to the Big 12.

Thamel: "There would still need to be more steps for Colorado to finalize the move [to the Big 12], as sources told ESPN that Colorado has not formally applied to the league. [However,] public applications to a league are often considered formalities."https://t.co/8qBTjoKAsY

Colorado is likely to move within the next 48 hours.
Also, there's another school in the Pac-12 beyond the rumored four corners that will surprise people and is seriously contemplating a jump to the Big 12.

ESPN spoke to Colorado AD Rick George on Tuesday in Indianapolis. He declined comment on a potential move to the Big 12. He did say about things coming to a head soon: "We are where we are. We've just got to figure it out." https://t.co/2OREqPHkMG

A lot of CU Board of Regents meetings in the last year that were rumored to be about a move to the Big 12 were misreported.
But hearing Pete Thamel's reporting has legitimacy. The board met today and is set for another, "special board meeting," on Thursday at 3 pm. https://t.co/k8XEkEPnEp
