Bravettes fourth at sunny Flathead Invite

Sep. 1—Hundreds of runners from across the state traversed the cross country course at Rebecca Farm on Friday, home of the Flathead Invite.

A preview of the state meet, also to be hosted at Rebecca Farm, it was the largest Flathead Invite ever, said Flathead coach Jesse Rumsey.

"I was super excited to have so many runners from across the state come to Rebecca Farm and just grind it out even with the heat," Rumsey said. "Friendly competition and authentic cross country. That's one thing that Rebecca Farms always offers is authentic cross country competition."

Junior Josie Wilson was the Bravettes' top finisher in 13th place, clocking in at 20:07.73. Seniors Lilli Rumsey Eash and Mikenna Conan stayed together most of the race and eneded up 17th and 18th. The Bravettes were fourth as a team.

"Josie Wilson has had an incredible offseason of training, has been very diligent and is super strong, competitive and rising to her potential," Rumsey said. "Lilli, Josie and McKenna did an amazing job grouping up and staying connected (during the race)."

Glacier freshman Lauren Bissen was the top Wolfpack girl, setting a personal record with her time of 20:09.83 and crossing the finish in 14th place, just ahead of Whitefish's Maeve Ingelfinger. The Glacier girls were sixth.

"She had a great day today," Glacier coach Cody Moore said. "The plan for her was to start off pretty conservatively and then try to move up throughout the field, and she executed that really, really well. It was fun to watch her kind of run some folks down that last mile and a half. I was really proud of her just to be mature and be confident in holding back a little bit early."

Flathead junior Robbie Nuila was eighth in the boys race, clocking 16:20.03. The Braves were sixth as a team.

"I'm very pleased with how our boys team performed after years of not having a squad with depth," Rumsey said. "We have finally accomplished that with the addition of Robbie Nuila and Hunter Arriaga. Despite the hot conditions, our boys placed well compared to the state and they are very hungry to improve their performance."

Bozeman's Kylee Neil and Nathan Neil swept the top of the podium and helped the Hawks to a team sweep.
