Brandt Snedeker shoots 59 at the PGA Tour's Wyndham Championship

Brandt Snedeker bogeyed the first hole of the day, and when you bogey the first hole of the day, you typically struggle.

He did not.

Snedeker stepped on the 18th tee at the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship, needing a birdie to become the ninth golfer to shoot 59 on the PGA Tour. Ultimately, he made a putt, sealing an 11-under 59 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. Jim Furyk, who shot a 59 at the 2013 BMW Championship, holds the PGA Tour record with a 58 at the 2016 Travelers Championship.

“I was very aware of what was going on,” Snedeker told reporters after the round, “and to knock that putt in was really special.”

Snedeker began the day on the 10th tee and responded from his opening bogey with two pars. He followed those with four straight birdies, making the turn at 32.

On his second nine, Snedeker struck the golf ball like Happy Gilmore on a good day. He birdied the first hole. And the second. And the third. After a par, he birdied another and then made eagle as if it were a miniature golf course.

Snedeker parred his 16th hole and made birdie on his 17th, meaning a birdie would put him in rarified air. He sunk the 20-footer, joining the sub-60 group.

“This is what we play for,” Snedeker said.
