Bradenton Christian School again looking for a football coach after Warren steps down

BRADENTON — For the second time in less than a month, Bradenton Christian School is looking for a football coach.

According to Panthers director of athletics Cole Hudson, John Warren resigned last week. Warren was hired April 11.

A former Southeast High football coach who replaced the legendary Paul Maechtle, Warren said he had been looking to get back to coaching in the area.

At his hiring announcement, Warren met with about 35 potential football players at Bradenton Christian. He said, “To me, it’s all about timing and this worked out absolutely perfect for me.”

Warren could not be reached for comment.

The Panthers had been looking for a coach after Scott Paravicini took the football coaching position at Lakewood Ranch High, where he played and served as an assistant coach.

Paravicini was the head coach at Bradenton Christian for one season, going 2-7, after three years there as an assistant.

Now, the school looking again.

Hudson named Jonathan Kliewer as interim coach for the spring. Spring football practice is under way. Bradenton Christian is scheduled to play host to a jamboree May 18 with Oasis out of Cape Coral, Saint Stephen’s Episcopal and Out-of-Door Academy.

Southeast looking for a boys basketball coach

Jonathan Castaneda made it official Monday, stepping down as Southeast High boys basketball coach.

Castaneda coached four seasons with the Seminoles, going 58-33. He points out that his teams were 42-12 against teams in the 941 area code.

Southeast went 18-6 this past season, winning the regional semifinal in thrilling fashion over Port Charlotte High at home. The Seminoles lost in the second round of the regional tournament at St. Petersburg High.
