BOYS' SOCCER ROUNDUP: Thurston leads 'Dogs over Devils

Sep. 20—NEW ALBANY — Colin Thurston had a goal and an assist as host New Albany edged Jeffersonville 2-1 in a Hoosier Hills Conference match Tuesday night at Green Valley.

Finn Railey had the Bulldogs' first goal, after they fell behind 1-0 early in the match when Miles Courson found the back of the net for the Red Devils, while Carlos Rodriguez dished out an assist.

Jeff (5-6, 2-3) will host Corydon Central at 7:30 p.m. tonight while New Albany (5-6-1, 2-1-1) will entertain Columbus East at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

KELLY LEADS PIONEERS TO WIN

FERDINAND — Drew Kelly's hat trick led Class 2A No. 7 Providence to a 3-1 win at Class A No. 13 Forest Park on Tuesday night.

Jaxon Revell assisted two of Kelly's three goals while Gus Ernstberger recorded seven saves between the pipes for the Pioneers.

Providence (7-3-4) will host Silver Creek at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

WATTS LEADS PIRATES PAST HORNETS

CHARLESTOWN — Bradley Watts had three goals and two assists as Charlestown downed Henryville 7-0 Tuesday night.

Cristian Martinez Jr., Blake Fraley, Austin Pickerell and Hayden Fust also found the net for the Pirates. Cohen Cooley dished out two assists while Darin Marsal, Ian Martinez Flores and Aidan Hawkins had one apiece.

Fraley and Dante Marsal combined for the shutout in goal.

Both teams will be back in action at 6 p.m. Thursday. The Hornets (6-5-1) will host Christian Academy while Charlestown (9-0) will entertain North Harrison as it tries to clinch its first-ever Mid-Southern Conference title.

LIONS BLANK PANTHERS

CORYDON — Five different players scored to lead Rock Creek to a 5-0 win at Corydon Central on Tuesday evening.

Rijkard Upchurch, Eli Benitos, Milo Benitos, Maven Campbell and Tyler Sieckert all found the net for the unbeaten Lions (10-0-1).

Hudson Beckmann registered his sixth shutout in goal for Creek, which will play in Trinity Lutheran's Cougar Cup on Saturday.

FLOYD OUSTS O'S

FLOYDS KNOBS — Host Floyd Central scored two second-half goals en route to a 2-0 triumph over Columbus East in a Hoosier Hills Conference match Tuesday night.

Gabriel Elslager and Micki Kirkland both found the net for the Highlanders (4-2-5), who will visit 3A No. 6 Columbus North at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.

GENERALS GET 1ST WIN

AUSTIN — Visiting Clarksville picked up its first victory, outlasting Austin 4-2, in just its third match Tuesday night.

"This is our first year playing as a varsity sport. Five on our team of 16 had never learned how to pass a soccer ball before this season, but are now quickly improving," Generals coach Harold Kays said.
