Springfield High claims first victory

Springfield High built a nine-point lead at intermission, and it led to a 60-52 victory over Alton in a nonconference boys basketball game at Willard Duey Gym on Saturday.

Sophomore guard Brody Scheffler, who finished with a game-high 15 points, had nine points before the break as the Senators led 31-22. Springfield maintained its lead when junior forward Valor Komolafe scored six points in the third quarter for a 47-38 advantage after three.

Scheffler went 6-for-6 from the free throw line, including 4-for-4 in the fourth quarter as Springfield (1-7) sealed its first win of the season and first-year coach Marques Warfield’s first career win.

As a team, the Senators went 16-for-22 (72.7 percent) from the charity stripe. Komolafe finished with 11 points and senior guard Seth Impson connected on a pair of 3-pointers and scored nine. Freshman guard Noah Wade had eight points and junior guard Jaiyden Wilson chipped in seven.

Kobe Taylor led Alton (5-4) with 13 points and teammates Semaj Stampley and Sean Tyus (four 3s) scored 12 apiece.

NOKOMIS 43, NORTH MAC 33

At Litchfield, Reece Lohman logged 19 points, six rebounds and three steals as Nokomis won at the Terry Todt Shootout.

Lohman had 12 points at the half and Nokomis (2-4) led 23-18. Saint Newman scored eight points for NHS.

J.T. Alexander led North Mac with 16 points.

AUBURN 40, PANA 33

At Auburn, the hosts broke a tie after three periods and outscored Pana 12-5 in the final quarter to record a nonconference win.

Cooper Carter scored six of his 11 points in the fourth period for Auburn (8-1). The game went into the fourth tied at 28 apiece.

Pana’s Clayton Worker and Ethan Hicks combined for 25 points. Worker had three 3s and 13 points, while Hicks made two from long distance and added 12.

CALVARY 61, ATHENS 55

At Calvary, the unbeaten Saints built a pair of 12-point leads at the half and after three quarters before recording a nonconference home win.

Luke Blackford had the hot hand for Calvary in the first half. He popped in three 3-pointers in the second period and scored 15 of his 17 points in the half to lift the Saints to a 36-24 intermission lead.

Joshua Long had nine of his 15 points in the first half and Connor Brown finished with 12 points for Calvary (6-0). The Saints made a 3-pointer and sealed the game by making 8 of 11 free throws in the fourth. They ended 12 of 16 from the stripe.

Pryor Reynolds nailed four 3s and had a game-high 19 points and teammate Zac Laird added 18 for Athens (3-2).

LITCHFIELD 65, RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 39

At Litchfield, the Purple Panthers overcame a three –point halftime deficit with a big second half to net a victory at the Terry Todt Shootout.

Litchfield trailed 25-22 at intermission and then outscored Lincolnwood 43-14 in the second half. Keenan Powell led Litchfield with 22 points and teammates Victor McGill and AJ Odle contributed in the second-half rally.

McGill scored 11 of his 15 points after halftime and Odle compiled 10 of his 12 in the final two quarters. Powell and Odle each made two 3-pointers as Litchfield improved to 6-3.

Brady Schmedeke scored a team-high 16 points for Lincolnwood (3-5).

FRIDAY'S RESULTS

LINCOLN — Junior guard Amaree Burries posted a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead Jacksonville past Lincoln 51-43 in a Central State Eight Conference boys basketball game at Roy S. Anderson Gym on Friday.

Burries went 7-for-15 from the floor, made four 3-pointers and finished 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Jacksonville (4-3 overall, 2-0 in the CS8) trailed 14-11 after one period and outscored Lincoln 12-4 in the second stanza for a 23-18 halftime lead. The Crimsons led 33-32 heading into the final period and hit 11 of 23 shots in the second half.

Isaiah Martinez hit one 3-pointer, was 4-for-5 from the line and scored nine points for Jacksonville. Masen Johnson drained two 3s and chipped in 11 points to go with 10 rebounds. The Crimsons sank 15 of 19 free throws, while Lincoln made just 2 of 5 from the charity stripe. Jacksonville outrebounded the Railsplitters 35-20.

Drew Hayes scored a team-high 12 points and Aidan Gowin chipped in 11 for Lincoln (4-3, 2-1).

DECATUR MACARTHUR 75, SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 56

At Decatur, sophomore Sean Lee racked up 30 points and the Generals pulled away to beat the Cyclones in Central State Eight Conference play.

Lee finished 10-for-15 from the floor and 10-for-15 from the free throw line. MacArthur went into the half with a 35-28 lead. The advantage grew to 54-40 after three quarters.

Stevie Tatum had 14 points for the Generals, who improved to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the CS8.

Myles Montgomery hit a couple 3-pointers for SHG (2-5, 1-2) and scored all 10 of his team-leading points in the first half. Terrion Wallace also had two 3s and added nine, while Mylin Logan, Bryce Musgrave and Jamarion Bardwell chipped in eight points apiece.

CHATHAM GLENWOOD 50, MOUNT VERNON 48 (OT)

At Chatham, Glenwood outscored Mount Vernon 7-5 in overtime and secured a nonconference victory.

Cameron Appenzeller had two buckets and Jonathan Helm scored three points in OT for Glenwood (6-2). Mason Marshall made a 3-pointer and had six of Glenwood’s 10 points in the fourth quarter. The Titans trailed 34-33 after three quarters.

Appenzeller and Marshall both finished with two 3s and scored 14 and 11 points, respectively. Helm ended with 10 points.

Navontae Nesbit Jr scored a game-high 22 points for Mount Vernon (4-2). He had 12 points in the first quarter, scored all five of the Rams’ points in overtime and drained three 3s.

CALVARY 75, HARTSBURG-EMDEN 44

At Calvary, the Saints put four players in double figures in a nonconference game to stay unbeaten.

Luke Blackford led the way with 17 points and Nolan McRill had two 3-pointers to follow with 14. Connor Brown hit a pair of 3s and added 12, while Reese Huffman totaled 11 for Calvary (5-0).

Calvary made six of its eight 3-pointers in the second period, which led to a 47-21 halftime lead.

WILLIAMSVILLE 47, NOKOMIS 32

At Williamsville, Blake Shoufler dialed up six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 20 points as the Bullets won a nonconference game.

Shoufler made four 3s in the first half, including three in the second quarter, when Williamsville (4-0) led 29-8 at the break. He added two more treys in the third quarter. Brayden Saling got into the 3-point act with three 3s in the first half and four total to add 16 points in the win.

Reece Lohman had a team-high 15 points for Nokomis (1-4).

RIVERTON 59, PITTSFIELD 47

At the Riverton Hawk Center, Jaxson Miller put in nine field goals, went 5-for-6 from the line and poured in a game-high 23 points to give Riverton a nonconference victory.

Miller had 14 points by intermission. Antonyo Davis chipped in 12 points and Julian Rice dropped in 11 as the Hawks improved to 5-1.

It was Pittsfield’s first loss as the Saukees slipped to 7-1.

NORMAL U-HIGH 42 ROCHESTER 29

At Normal, Rochester was limited to 12 first-half points and dropped a Central State Eight Conference game.

Canon Bruce made two 3s and scored six of Rochester’s 12 points in the first half. He finished with eight. Tanner Beal also scored eight for the Rockets (2-4 overall, 1-2 in the CS8).

Mason Hooper-Willis connected on three 3s and scored a game-high 11 points for U-High (5-2, 1-1). Teammate Owan Nelson had 10 in the victory.

SOUTH COUNTY 53, JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 45

At Waverly, Trevor Colwell and Noah Lyons scored 18 points apiece and the Vipers won their sixth straight game.

After leading by three points at the break, South County (7-1) opened up a 42-29 lead after three quarters. Lyons had seven points and Colwell added six in the third. Colwell finished with three 3-pointers and Lyons connected on two from long distance.

Bryson Mossman and Nolan Turner had 14 points apiece for Routt (4-3).

ATHENS 65, GREENVIEW 24

At Athens, the Warriors got out to a 38-9 halftime lead and rolled to a nonconference victory.

Zac Laird led the way for Athens (3-1), scoring 14 of his game-high 18 points in the first half. Ashtyn Janssen netted all 14 of his points in the first two periods and Pryor Reynolds had eight of his 12 after intermission.

LITCHFIELD 54, GREENVILLE 52

At Greenville, Litchfield used a balanced third quarter and pulled out a South Central Conference win.

Four different players scored between four and six points as Litchfield outscored Greenville 19-12 in the third to take a 48-42 lead after three periods.

Victor McGill made two 3-pointers, went 5-for-6 from the foul line and led Litchfield (5-3 overall, 1-0 in the SCC) with 19 points. Teammates Tate Dobrinich followed with 13 points and Carson Saathoff tallied nine.

Greenville dropped to 4-2 and 0-1.

PLEASANT PLAINS 60, WINCHESTER WEST CENTRAL 55

At Pleasant Plains, the Cardinals outscored the Cougars 19-9 in the fourth quarter and overcame a five-point deficit to collect a nonconference win.

Grady Grisham buried a 3-pointer and scored all eight of his points in the fourth period to spur on Plains’ comeback. Liam Hatfield had one of his three 3s in the final quarter and scored six in the frame. He concluded with a game-high 20 points. Cooper Schallenburg had two treys and ended with 16 for Plains (2-4).

Zack Evans dropped in 11 of his team-high 14 points before halftime for West Central (6-2).

PANA 53, HILLSBORO 20

At Hillsboro, Clayton Worker led all scorers with 20 points and teammates Ross Glick and Ethan Hicks added 10 apiece to collect a South Central Conference win.

Worker had 14 points, including two 3-pointers in the second half. Nathan Matoush and Mitchell Lowe paced Hillsboro with six points apiece.

VANDALIA 66, CARLINVILLE 49

At The Big House in Carlinville, Tanner Robbins and Wade Brannon combined for five 3-pointers and 43 points, and the Vandals posted a South Central Conference win.

Robbins had two 3s and a game-best 24 points, while Brannon knocked down three treys in the first period and had 13 of his 19 points in the quarter. Vandalia (4-3 overall, 1-0 in the SCC) went into halftime with a 31-24 lead.

Dom Alepra nailed a game-high five 3s in the loss for Carlinville (1-4, 0-1). He had four triples in the second half when he scored 18 points to finish with 23. Teammate Camden Naugle scored all eight of his points in the second period.

BRIMFIELD 51, HAVANA 48

At Brimfield, the hosts erased a five-point deficit after three quarters and rallied for a Prairieland Conference win.

Havana was outscored 14-6 in the final period. Brimfield (2-7 overall, 1-1 in the Prairieland) finished with nine 3-pointers.

Jaron Boggs had 11 second-half points and totaled 17 for Havana (2-5, 0-1).
