Boys lacrosse regional final previews: Ponte Vedra, Bolles eye final four trips

The Florida High School Athletic Association begins regional finals in boys lacrosse on Saturday evening. All times are as listed by the FHSAA but are subject to change.

REGION 1-2A

Ponte Vedra (15-6) at Lake Mary (21-1), 7:30 p.m.

A giant challenge ahead, even for a Sharks team that's always one of Northeast Florida's best. Lake Mary has been a steamroller the last couple of years, fields one of Florida's top players in Caden Harshbarger and overpowered Nease last week by nearly 20 goals. Ponte Vedra is always strong on the face-offs with Lad Harper, solid in the net with Jack Pelot and includes numerous proven scorers. Lake Mary edged the Sharks 6-5 in an early-season thriller. The winner advances to the state semifinals on May 9 in Naples, against an opponent to be determined once the FHSAA uses its ranking formula to reseed the final four.

How they got here: Ponte Vedra, Bolles advance in FHSAA regionals

Gainesville Oak Hall (17-3) at Bolles (20-2), 7:30 p.m.

A final-four return on deck for the Bulldogs, who nearly won it all last year? It could happen. The Parker Kane-Daylin John-Hill combination has been superb in this postseason and helped Bolles storm past Episcopal in Wednesday's regional semis. But Oak Hall is always dangerous. Junior Pierce Montes is committed to High Point and Andrew Jimenez has excelled in his senior year, netting 63 goals. Bolles beat Oak Hall 18-3 in last year's playoffs. The winner advances to a May 9 state semifinal in Naples.
