Boys basketball: Pirates post first win in EIAC

Dec. 18—BROOKVILLE — The Pirates hit the road for the first time this season and returned to town with an EIAC victory. Greensburg led at every break en route to a 46-38 win at Franklin County.

The Pirates improve to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in the EIAC. Franklin County drops to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

The Pirates held an 11-8 lead after the first quarter and extended the lead to 19-15 at the half. After three quarters, Greensburg led by eight, 34-26. Franklin County cut into the deficit during the final eight minutes, but could not get over the hump, falling by eight points.

Two Pirates scored in double figures with Drew Busick scoring 12 and Bradley Lutz adding 11. Addison Barnes-Pettit finished with nine points. Jack McKinsey scored eight. Justin Adkins had four points and Reece Beaver added two.

Lutz finished with a team-high five rebounds to go with one assist and one steal. McKinsey and Barnes-Pettit both grabbed four rebounds. McKinsey dished out a team-high four assists. Beaver and Busick both had two assists. McKinsey and Adkins both had two steals to lead Greensburg.

South Decatur

South Decatur split games on the weekend, winning Friday over Morristown 71-47 and falling Saturday at South Ripley 75-61. The Cougars move to 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in the MHC.

Friday, the Cougars grabbed a 15-10 lead after the first quarter. Morristown fought back to cut the deficit to 22-21 at the half.

South took over in the third quarter, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 25-8 to lead 47-29 heading to the fourth quarter. South won the final eight minutes 24-18 to lock down the 71-47 victory.

Jacob Scruggs had a big game for the Cougars with 35 points to go with three rebounds, six assists and eight steals.

Jamison Keller was also in double figures with 16 points and three rebounds. Lucas Ballard (five rebounds), Taylen Absher (six rebounds) and Drake Scaggs (five rebounds) all had six points. Colby Rathburn scored two points to go with four rebounds and three assists.

Freshman Kellen Crim led Morristown with 20 points. Mathew Carlton added eight points.

Saturday, the Cougars traveled to South Ripley and fell to the Raiders. The Raiders held a slim 33-31 lead at the half. South Ripley outscored the Cougars 42-30 in the second half for the 75-61 win.

South Ripley has won five straight to move to 5-1 on the season.

For the Cougars, Scruggs scored 26 points and added two rebounds and five assists. Scaggs added nine points three rebounds. Absher finished with seven points, four rebounds and two assists.

Jaylynn McMurray had six points and one assist. Keller finished with six points, one rebound and one assist. Rathburn tallied five points, four rebounds, one assist and a team-high three steals. Alex Myers had two points and one rebound.
