Boys basketball midseason report: Athletes having breakout campaigns in Somerset County

Returning all-state and all-county players have led the way for several Somerset County basketball teams this season. But as the season nears the midway point, several players are also having breakout campaigns.

At the start the of the season, 13 athletes were named to the Players to Watch list by Daily American sports editor Adam Ripple.

Here is a look at some players who were not on the original Top 13 list that are having breakout seasons and listed in alphabetical order:

Tanner Barkley, sr., SF, 6-1, Windber

Barkley, who was selected Midseason Boys Basketball Breakout Player by the Daily American readers, is third on the Ramblers in scoring with 99 points through 10 games.

Braxton Faidley, jr., F, 6-0, Shanksville-Stonycreek

Through eight games, Faidley is second on the team in scoring with 104 points (13 PPG). He has added 47 rebounds, 15 steals, 10 assists and a team-high six blocked shots.

Mac Foor, jr. G, 6-0, Berlin Brothersvalley

Through nine games, Foor is third on the team in scoring with 85 points. He has also contributed 29 rebounds, 14 assists and 11 steals.

Dominic Heiple, jr., G, 5-8, Somerset

Heiple has recorded 140 points, shooting 50% from the floor, 34 rebounds, 29 assists and 24 steals through 11 games.

Ethan Matera, so., PF, 6-3, Conemaugh Township

In 11 games, Matera has netted 145 points (13.2 PPG). As a first-year starter, he is third on the team in scoring. Matera also has 88 rebounds, 25 steals and 10 blocked shots.

Zack Ryan, jr., PF, 6-2, Turkeyfoot Valley

Ryan leads the team with 90 rebounds and 41 blocked shots. He is third on the Rams with 125 points (12.5 PPG) in 10 games played.
