Boys basketball: Central, Christian both successful on road
Aberdeen Central was able to fend off late-game heroics by a Sioux Falls Lincoln fourth-quarter attack, downing the Patriots 64-63.
The Golden Eagles headed into the halftime break with a 30-21 lead. Coming out of the halftime break, the Golden Eagles furthered their lead, scoring 25 points in the third quarter alone.
Headed into the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles (6-2) led 55-34 – but Sioux Falls Lincoln would storm back, outscoring Aberdeen Central by 20 points in the fourth quarter. The last score of the game for Aberdeen Central came with 4:47 remaining.
In the first half, the Golden Eagles held the Patriots to 1-for-15 shooting from behind the arc. Sioux Falls Lincoln would answer in the second half connecting on six of their 14 attempts. As a team, the Golden Eagles finished the game connecting on three of their 15 attempts from beyond the arc.
Alec Voegele led the way offensively for Aberdeen Central with 17 points and eight rebounds. AJ Hase added 13 points for the Golden Eagles, while Sam Rohlfs had 12 points. Noah Behrends and Spencer Barr both had seven points.
For Sioux Falls Lincoln, the Patriots were led by Saif Shah with 13 points. Khalil Cisse had 11 points, while Cameron Jackson and Elliot Whitney both had 10 points.
Christian downs Oakes
Malek Wieker and Ethan Russell both had 21 points for Aberdeen Christian, who downed Oakes, N.D., 78-50.
Christian connected on 12 3-pointers, four of them coming from Wieker and three from Russell. Defensively, the Knights were able to limit the Tornadoes to six 3-pointers.
Christian also got offensive production from Jackson Isakson who had 12 points, and Andrew Brennan had nine.
