On the Boston Celtics trading for Xavier Tillman, Sr.

The Boston Celtics have traded for Memphis Grizzlies backup big man Xavier Tillman, Sr., sending reserve forward Lamar Stevens to the Grizzlies along with a pair of second-round picks. What does this move do for the Celtics in the rest of the NBA’s 2023-24 regular season, and can Tillman help Boston in the postseason?

And even before that, does this trade signal the end of the Celtics making moves before the 2024 trade deadline? Or could team president Brad Stevens end up making additional moves to bolster the ball club’s bench before the arrival of the Feb. moratorium on making trades passes?

A 6-foot-8 combo big who can move his feet and defend pretty much anywhere on the court if needed, Tillman may not be a great outside shot in recent seasons, but he has shown flashes of a jumper in the past.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what the folks at the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast had to say about the pickup.
