Bojan Bogdanovic inks two-year, $21 million deal with Indiana Pacers

One of the best pure shooters in the NBA is on the move once again, this time to the Midwest. Bojan Bogdanovic and the Indiana Pacers have agreed to a two-year, $21 million deal, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The veteran swingman split time between the Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards last season. He averaged 13.7 points per game last year on 44.5 percent shooting, including 36.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Bogdanovic started 54 of 55 games with the Nets before coming off the bench for the Wizards. The 6-foot-8 shooter really found his groove in Washington’s John Wall-led drive-and-kick offense, shooting 39.1 percent from deep in his 26 regular season games in the nation’s capital. But he cooled off in the playoffs, shooting just 35.6 percent in the team’s postseason run. The Wizards fell to the Boston Celtics in seven games in the conference semifinals.

The 28-year-old Bosnia native joins a Pacers team that traded star forward Paul George to the Thunder earlier this offseason. The team got Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis in return.

Bogdanovic is a good floor spacer, but not much else. Over 45 percent of his shots have come from behind the arc in his three-year NBA career. He is also a very good free-throw shooter, and he got to the line far more often last year than in either of his first two years.

For the Pacers, this is a relatively low-risk, low-reward signing. Bogdanovic has averaged over 79 games played per year, and his ability to stretch the floor helps out in any set. With the Pacers clearly rebuilding, how (and if) he fits in the team’s plans remains to be determined.

With this move, the Wizards, meanwhile, are sending a clear message that they plan to match any Nets offer for Otto Porter Jr. Washington needs cap space, and by renouncing Bogdanovic, the team will have just that.
