Australian skateboarding prodigy Sabre Norris already astonishing at age 9
When you name your child Sabre Norris, you have to expect they'll be a skateboard legend, right?
Sure enough, a 9-year-old Norris captured her first 540-degree spin atop the halfpipe on film, and naturally her YouTube views are rapidly approaching 60,000 in the span of a few days. As the Australian skateboarding prodigy says upon succeeding on her 75th attempt, "I can't believe it."
For the record, Norris cannot ride a bicycle, but she can pull off an aerial twist one and a half times over.
"My skating all started because I wasn't allowed to get a bike because we don't have a garage," she told The Berrics, a popular skateboarding website. "So my mum bought us skateboards instead. I started from rolling down my dad's business car park. ... I still can't ride a bike, but I can do a 540."
Given that she's only been skating for three years and is already attempting 720's, we may be seeing Norris at the X Games some day. She learned the trick from watching YouTube clips of Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins, the first woman ever to pull off a 540 McTwist and owner of eight X Games medals, including three golds. In case you were wondering, Hakwins also learned to skateboard at age 6.
Of course, Norris is no stranger to the spotlight. She's also an up-and-coming sufing star. We're guessing she would have been a pretty quick learner on a bicycle, too.
