Zemgus Girgensons' All-Star vote domination grows
A week ago, it was a cute little story that Buffalo forward Zemgus Girgensons had all of Latvia voting for him for the NHL All-Star Game. He was the NHL's leading vote getter, but not by a lot 399,356 to P.K. Subban's 240,362. At that time it seemed like the law of averages would prevail and Girgensons would fall back to the pack.
Not the case, oh not at all. The league announced the newest totals with Girgensons holding a 803,805 to 375,758 advantage over Chicago's Patrick Kane after three weeks of voting.
If voting ended Tuesday, Girgensons, Kane, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, Subban and Corey Crawford would all hold guaranteed spots in the All-Star Game. The likes of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Tyler Seguin and Mark Giordano would not -- though all would probably still make it.
Still... yikes... in a totally awesome way of course.
The last time there was a fan vote, Erik Karlsson led all players with 939,591 total. So this basically means that Girgensons is pretty much assured of making the All-Star Game. Voting ends Jan. 1, and it appears there is no stopping the 'Zemgus Train.'
Sidenote: Since it was released Dec. 2 that he was the leading All-Star vote getter, Girgensons has 'shamed his homeland' with just one assist and is a minus-2 in three games.
At very least can we get a #zemgusgirgensonsfacts going out of this on Twitter?
