Tyler Toffoli gets major and misconduct for Alex Burrows board in Kings loss (Video)

The Kings and the Canucks got a little feisty in a 4-1 Vancouver win. First there was an incident where Henrik Sedin slammed into Jonathan Quick’s head, and the ensuing scrum where Vancouver goaltender Eddie Lack waited at the red line in case it got way out of hand. Sadly, we were deprived of a goalie fight.

And then there was this boarding major by Tyler Toffoli on Alex Burrows.

Yes, Burrows is one who is known to take falls pretty easily, but he’s in a prone position here, and well … it looks bad. Burrows did return but Toffoli got a five-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding.

(UPDATE: Toffoli will not have a hearing.)

That Toffoli brain cramp led to a Radim Vrbata 5-on-3 power play goal (Drew Doughty was already in the box for a slash), which gave Vancouver a 2-1 lead and proved the eventual game winner. And now Los Angeles rests two points back of Calgary for the final Pacific Division playoff spot in the Western conference – with a game in hand. The Flames lost in OT to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

From the Los Angeles Times:

Burrows was slow to leave the ice after getting cross-checked into the boards, but he later returned to the game. Toffoli spoke about the cause and effect of the major.

"Yeah, it sucks," he said. "I wish it didn't happen. I wish we won the game. It feels like it's on my shoulders right now and it's not a good feeling."

And

"I haven't seen the replay," Toffoli said. "I don't really know what happened. It all happened pretty quickly. I haven't seen anything yet. I don't really remember what happened.

"The way everything turned out … I came into the room and I haven't really thought about it too much."

As for Toffoli, any Department of Player Safety issues will hurt the Kings' forward depth -- now with Jarret Stoll out.

Also, here is the Sedin/Quick play:

In the Kings’ last two games, they’ve scored the first goal and lost. Not good with five straight road games upcoming. And the Canucks? They are four points clear of the Kings, and can relax ever so slightly.
