Red Wings’ Darren Helm out of Game 1 after skate cut to hand (VIDEO)

The Detroit Red Wings expected to get a boost by the return of forward Darren Helm from injury for Game 1 of the Western Conference quarterfinals against the Nashville Predators.

His return lasted six shifts. Helm left the game, and went to a local hospital, with 6:18 left in the first period after appearing to take an opponent's skate to the hand.

Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reported (via Fox Sports Detroit) that Helm was headed to the hospital. He also mentioned this play from last season in which Mike Modano's wrist was cut by a skate:

Modano suffered severed tendon and slight damage to a nerve, and missed three months. Yikes.
