NCAA ad uses Miracle On Ice speech to promote March Madness (Video)

During the opening day of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, a striking black-and-white commercial aired showing young hoops players competing on a variety of courts.

The narration should be familiar to hockey fans: The NCAA is using the "Miracle on Ice" to sell March Madness basketball.

Yes, it’s the classic Herb Brooks speech you hear. You know, "Great moments are born from great opportunity, and that's what you have here tonight,” yadda yadda.

Alas, the commercial doesn’t end with an emphatic “SCREW’EM!”

Double alas, it also doesn’t feature the voice of then-4-year-old Josh Sacco, a.k.a. Lil’ Herb Brooks.

Obviously, the NCAA feels it needs the rub from professional hockey’s massive, juggernaut-like popularity in the U.S. in order to get people to tune into their glorified excuse for an office pool. We look forward to hearing Gordon Bombay’s “Ducks fly together” speech before the Sweet Sixteen.
