Nathan Gerbe goes between-the-legs for goal of the year candidate (Video)

If Nathan Gerbe played for the Washington Capitals, he'd probably be chained to the Carolina Hurricanes' bench for the next week after doing what he did to Steve Mason Wednesday night. Adam Oates would have thought it was totally disrespectful.

No, the 5-foot-5 forward didn't go all Ray Emery on Mason, he went into his trick bag and pulled off the move that Tomas Hertl made an international sensation earlier this season. Gerbe chased down a loose puck and went between-the-legs for his 10th goal of the season:

You've got to love his lack of celebration. Yeah, I scored between-the-legs. No biggie.

The goal gave the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead in the first period and assured Gerbe's place in Wednesday night's highlight reels.

Said Gerbe to Fox Sports Carolina between periods: "I tried to be creative. I just saw the gap and the angle that I could try it and fortunately it went in."

"It's something I tried as a kid and I just thought of trying it here. Luckily it went in."
