Linden Vey scores great goal for wrong team in Penguins’ rally (Video)
When you’re an NHL player named Linden Vey, the basic problem is that whenever you make a mistake, the reaction is going to be pretty obvious.
So after the Vancouver Canucks’ forward accidentally put the puck in his own net on Saturday … say it once, say it loud: “OY VEY!” (Penguins Twitter did.)
The Canucks were leading the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 in the third period when the Penguins rushed out of their zone, with Malkin eventually getting the puck. He deked, sliced and skated to Ryan Miller’s right, pulling the goalie out of his crease.
Malkin sent the puck back to the slot, looking for a teammate cutting to the net. Vey intercepted the pass … and promptly tucked it into his own open net.
These things happen. Unfortunately in this case for the Canucks, it sparked a four-goal rally from the Penguins that included another goal from Malkin just over three minutes later – completing a hat trick – and then another from Bryan Rust just 1:38 after that.
Sidney Crosby added an important empty netter at 18:37, as Jannik Hansen scored at 19:43 for the Canucks.
Pittsburgh held on for the 5-4 win. A Vey, Vey good win.
