Troy football player Jadarius Garner’s body found on side of Mississippi highway

Troy football player Jadarius Garner was found dead on the side of a highway near his hometown in Mississippi.

On Thursday morning, officers were called to what was reported as a two-car accident near Clarksdale. It was not.

From the Dothan Eagle:

A report from the Mississippi Highway Patrol said Mississippi State Troopers, county deputies and rescue officials responded to what they thought was a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 61.

When they arrived around 2:30 a.m., they found the body of a pedestrian in the southbound lane. At least two vehicles had “traveled” over the body.

A cause of death has not been determined and Garner's body has been sent to Jackson, Miss., for further evaluation.

"I can't express how deeply saddened we are by the loss of Jadarius," Troy AD John Hartwell said in a release. "Our hearts go out to his family, friends and teammates in this unimaginable time of pain, and we will do all that we can to help and support them."

Garner had seven tackles for loss and three sacks this season.

On Wednesday, a Troy commit from February of 2013 was charged with manslaugher in connection with a shooting death of a Troy student.

Taylor Driggers was charged in Crensaw County, Ala. with manslaughter after the death of 18-year-old Kristin Fuller. Per the Eagle, Troy said that Driggers was expected to join the football team this semester or summer.

In December, Troy's Dimitri Miles was charged with murder in the death of Marquise McClendon.
