Kansas' new coach is reportedly Texas A&M WR coach David Beaty

Kansas could be hiring a former Mark Mangino assistant as its new head coach.

Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman reports that Texas A&M WR coach David Beaty is getting the Jayhawks' head coaching job.

Earlier Friday, JayhawkSlant.com reported that the school was focusing on Beaty, who was an assistant at Kansas in 2008, 2009 and 2011.

From JayhawkSlant's Friday morning report:

It was believed the original timeline was to conduct final interviews early next week and have a head coach in place for official recruiting visits December 12. However, it appears everything could be moved up and Beaty is expected to be in Lawrence today.

Beaty is expected to meet with Zenger, members of the advisory committee, and University officials. If everything goes as planned, Beaty could be named the head coach as early as this evening, or as late as Monday.

In his first stint at Kansas, Beaty was an assistant under Mangino, the school's most successful coach in recent history. After an Orange Bowl win following the 2007 season, Mangino parted ways with the school two years later after an internal investigation of alleged misconduct towards players.

Mangino, now the offensive coordinator at Iowa State, was 50-48 in his eight seasons at Kansas. Over the last five seasons, the combined record of Turner Gill, Charlie Weis and Clint Bowen, who finished 2014 as the interim coach after Weis was fired midseason, is 12-58.

Beaty has been Texas A&M's WR coach for the past three seasons after serving as Kansas' passing game coordinator in 2011. He's also A&M's recruiting coordinator. Texas A&M's 2015 class is currently ranked No. 7 by Rivals and the Aggies had the No. 6 class in the country in 2014.
