Blake Griffin visits Rainn Wilson’s van for deep, probing interview (VIDEO)
With surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee sidelining him for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and beyond, Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin's got some time to kill these days. So he's spending it as any reasonable NBA All-Star would — climbing into the back of a creepy, crummy old van with the guy who starred in "The Rocker."
Griffin recently sat down with Rainn Wilson — best known for his portrayal of Dwight Schrute on the American version of "The Office" — for an episode of "Metaphysical Milkshake," a new chat series on the YouTube channel for SoulPancake, the media company/online community Wilson co-founded a few years back to (as Wilson put it in a recent video) tackle "life's big questions [and] exploring what it means to be a human being." In this context, that means asking Blake about stuff like what he learned from his parents (the importance of hard work, duh), what he'd like to do if he wasn't in the NBA (be a stand-up comedian, double-duh) and what love is (according to Griffin, "a deep and natural infatuation with something or someone," triple-duh).
Such exploration, of course, is bookended by light-as-a-feather goofs (gooves?) about Blake faking his knee injury to avoid facing Angolan big men and texting pictures of his junk (no Oden) to the guy who played the convenience store clerk in "Juno," which lets Griffin off without having to get too deep into anything. While Blake's tackling of life's big questions doesn't necessarily teach us anything new about him, the difficulty he has feigning disappointment in not getting Steve Carell's cell phone number from Wilson does suggest he has a long way to go as an actor, a fact sure to please noted critic and Sacramento Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins, if nothing else.
