Bleacher Report names Raiders DE Clelin Ferrell as potential trade candidate

The trade discussions around former No. 4 pick Clelin Ferrell are as loud as ever. With just a day to go until the NFL trade deadline, it seems likely that Ferell could be on the move.

In a recent article by Bleacher Report, they named several former high draft picks that could be dealt by Tuesday. Ferrell’s name was on the list as he has become just a rotational player in Las Vegas.

Here is a small snippet of what the site had to say about the player and why he could be traded in the next few hours:

“Over the summer, beat writers suggested Ferrell would hardly see the field, and that’s held true—he’s played just 95 snaps over six appearances, or 22 percent of the chances.

Still, Ferrell has occasionally flashed, and a change of scenery (and unwieldy expectations due to draft slotting) could help him blossom. Contenders that could use rotational depth while hoping for cheap long-term additions to the core, such as Dallas and Tennesse, should have interest in throwing out late-round picks at Las Vegas.”

If the Raiders do decide to hold onto Ferrell, he would give them excellent depth on the defensive line and someone who can play multiple positions. He is an excellent run defender and doesn’t need a ton of snaps to be productive.

However, the smart money is on the Raiders to move him and get a draft asset for him in 2022. The team selected Malcolm Koonce in the third round this year and would like to see him get more snaps going forward. Plus, they have Carl Nassib as a proven backup behind Yannick Ngakoue and Maxx Crosby.

It will be fascinating to see over the next day if the Raiders do, in fact, trade Clelin Ferrell before the deadline.
