Blake Snell Agrees to Two-Year, $62M Deal With Giants

Pitcher Blake Snell has signed a two-year deal with the San Francisco Giants worth $62 million, according to multiple reports. This ends his lengthy stint as a free agent that extended well into spring training.

The deal includes an opt-out option after the first season, according to ESPN. Spotrac shows that Snell’s salary will account for 15% of the Giants’ payroll in 2024, the highest on the team.

Snell made his major league debut in 2016 with the Tampa Bay Rays and won the Cy Young Award in 2018. After inking a five-year, $50 million contract extension before the 2019 season, Snell was traded in the 2020 offseason to the San Diego Padres, where he won his second Cy Young last season. He is one of seven pitchers to win the Cy Young in both the National and American League.

Snell is represented by agent Scott Boras, who also represents the still-unsigned pitcher Jordan Montgomery, who was previously with the reigning World Series champion Texas Rangers.

The 31-year-old Snell joins a starting pitching rotation in San Francisco that includes Logan Webb, Jordan Hicks and Alex Cobb.

Smell was linked to a variety of teams during his free agency, including the New York Yankees, Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels.
