Bismack Biyombo listed as potential Warriors target
It’s no secret that the Golden State Warriors lack some size in the center of the court. The team has been relying on Dario Saric and Trayce Jackson-Davis for the majority of their big man minutes throughout the first half of the season.
As such, Sports Illustrated’s Ben Stinar believes that the Warriors should turn their attention toward free agent big man Bismack Biyombo as a potential target to add reliable depth to the rotation. Biyombo spent the first half of the season with the Memphis Grizzlies, playing in 30 games, averaging 5.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.
“Biyombo is an excellent rim protector and could likely be signed for the veteran’s minimum, so there would be no risk for Golden State,” Stinar wrote. “The Warriors are one of the worst teams at defending the rim, as they rank 29th in the NBA for blocks per contest (3.9).”
The Warriors turned down the opportunity to acquire Dwight Howard during the off-season. It’s unclear whether Golden State’s front office would deem Biyombo to be a better player than the future Hall of Famer, or if they believe he would better suit their system. Nevertheless, he would provide reliable size and rebounding off the bench.
Golden State has struggled to string wins together over the opening months. Adding some reliable rim protection that can also protect the glass wouldn’t be the worst option available. Still, Mike Dunleavy Jr. is unlikely to make any free agency moves until he’s tested the waters on the trade market ahead of the February 8 trade deadline.
