Big shakeup in first team re-rankings: Shore soccer boys Top 20, girls Top 20

Here are updated Shore Conference soccer rankings with results through Wednesday, Sept. 20. It's our first re-rankings since preseason rankings were published.

Girls soccer

1. Freehold Township 6-0 (previously No. 1)

Freehold Township remains undoubtedly at No. 1 as they continue untouched in the early season. The Patriots improved on national rankings, sliding up from No. 7 in the country to the No. 3 spot as voted on by United Soccer Coaches.

2. Manalapan 5-0 (previously No. 3)

Manalapan gets its shot at Freehold Township Oct. 5.

3. Central Regional 6-0 (previously No. 8)

Golden Eagles won their last two by a combined 15-0.

4. RBC 5-0 (previously No. 6)

On Wednesday notched another quality win over Rumson-Fair Haven.

5. Brick Memorial 4-1 (previously No. 10)

Mustangs only blemish is to No. 4 RBC.

6. Howell 3-3 (previously No. 2)

Three straight wins after an 0-3 start.

7. Middletown South 2-3 (previously No. 4]

Losses are to Nos. 1, 2 and 6.

8. Marlboro 4-1-1 (previously No. 15)

Undefeated until falling to Freehold Township on Wednesday.

9. Point Pleasant Borough 4-0-1 (previously No. 7)

Point Borough handled unranked teams in Lacey and Donovan Catholic but slide down a few spots until further tested.

10. Wall 4-1 (previously No. 13)

It is tough for any team to face a nationally ranked squad as the Knights fell to Freehold Township in its only loss on the season. Wall contends in the Class A Central division.

11. Jackson Memoria 4-1 (previously No. 12)

Jackson Memorial is atop the Shore Conference Tournament Group 3 leaderboard.

12. Trinity Hall 3-0-1 (previously No. 26)

Big tests upcoming vs. Southern, RFH and Colts Neck within a week’s span.

13. Manasquan 2-1-1 (previously No. 14)

Steady progress so far.

14. Ocean 3-3 (previously unranked)

Losses were against higher-ranked teams Trinity Hall, Manalapan and Manasquan.

15. TRS 3-2 (previously No. 9)

All three wins are via shutout.

16. Colts Neck 2-2 (previously No. 28)

Off to a slower start than was anticipated.

17. Point Pleasant Beach 4-1 (previously No. 30)

Gulls lost to Middletown South 8-3.

18. TRN 3-1-1 (previously No. 16)

Good win over Southern on Wednesday.

19. Middletown North 1-3 (previously No. 21)

Lions try to find their way back again after falling to Shore Conference bigs RBC, Marlboro and Manalapan.

20. Lacey 5-2 (previously No. 22)

Tale of two teams when facing different levels of competition.

Boys soccer

1. Christian Brothers Academy 4-1 (previously No. 1)

After suffering its first loss of the season to a top-ranked LaSalle Prep team, CBA bounced back with a victory over fellow New Jersey power Delran.

2. Holmdel 3-0-1 (previously No. 2)

Despite a tie with Howell on Monday, Holmdel still holds steady at the No. 2 thanks to three previous contests, outscoring its opponents 16-4 against Red Bank Regional, Raritan and Manchester.

3. Southern 3-0-2 (previously No. 18)

Southern put the Shore Conference on notice when taking down Toms River North.

4. Toms River North 4-1 (previously No. 3)

The Mariners look to get over the setback to Southern.

5. Central Regional 5-0 (previously No. 28)

Had been overlooked but never underworked. Central Regional boys are passing the numbers test with flying colors, being undefeated on the season including 3-0 in the A South division.

6. Howell 2-1-1 (previously No. 11)

Though not highly decorated early on, the eye test and effort has the Rebels in the thick of it.

7. Manalapan 2-2 (previously No. 17)

In arguably the most competitive division, the Braves are holding their own.

8. Colts Neck 2-1 (previously No. 7)

Coach Art Collier notched his 250th career victory Sept. 14 in a 6-5 decision over Ocean Township, with Kyle Moore scoring five times.

9. Manasquan 4-0 (previously No. 4)

The Warriors are atop B North but big tests are ahead.

10. Middletown North 3-1 [previously No. 16]

Lions' lone blemish is to Toms River North. The biggest contest of them all is Thursday, as they face CBA on the road.

11. Middletown South 3-2 (previously No. 24)

Eagles looking to rebound over 2-1 loss to Howell.

12. Marlboro 2-2-1 (previously No. 6)

Much better than record suggests.

13. RFH 3-1-1 (previously No. 13)

Notched shutouts in last two games.

14. Freehold Township 2-3 (previously No. 5)

Still on track for 20th consecutive winning season.

15. Manchester 4-2 (previously No. 29)

Clean sheet for goalkeeper Noah Cundiff in most recent.

16. St Rose 4-1-1 (previously No. 15)

The next few contests, at home against SJV and on the road against Manalapan and Manasquan, are vital for St. Rose to remain on the radar.

17. Long Branch 3-2-1 (previously No. 8)

Long Branch earned its wins against Jackson Memorial and Ranney in Group 7 play and Freehold Borough.

18. Matawan 3-1 (previously No. 25)

Huskies are working on a three-game win streak.

19. Point Pleasant Borough 3-1 (previously No. 10)

Falling to Freehold Township during week one, Panthers got back to its winning ways with a 5-3 win against Donovan Catholic and blanking Asbury Park, 5-0. They will need to keep up the winning ways.

20. St. John Vianney 4-0 (previously No. 21)

4-0 is not a bad start.
