Big name free agents receivers look to be ignoring the Philadelphia Eagles

DeSean Jackson looked to be a lock for the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this offseason. Seen by many as wanting a return to Philly, the Eagles and Jackson looked set for a reunion in 2017. Then, things began to fall apart once the legal tampering period began. By the time this morning rolled around, Jackson had chosen for forgo a reunion with the Eagles and sign with Tampa Bay.

The move by Jackson seems to be a trend right now with big name free agent wide receivers ignoring the Eagles plea for help. Even with the possibility of playing with one of the NFL’s biggest up-and-coming quarterbacks in Carson Wentz, Kenny Britt, Kenny Stills and Robert Woods have all now chosen to sign with other teams around the NFL.

While it is true that the Eagles may not have made a major run at any of these players due to their interest in signing A.J. Bouye, the fact that so many of these big name receivers have signed elsewhere does not bode well for this team. Don’t get me wrong either, this is not the end of the world, at least not yet.

Alshon Jeffery remains a free agent and is also one that many believe the Eagles could have a decent shot at signing. Also still on the market is Terrelle Pryor, Victor Cruz, Vincent Jackson, Michael Floyd, and Cordarrelle Patterson just to name a few. Again though, the fact that some free agents once linked to Philly have signed elsewhere could be a sign of things to come.

That said, the Eagles have made some gains so far this offseason with the signing of former 49ers receiver Torrey Smith. With his addition, the Eagles should at least have a solid go-to guy for deep balls. However, Smith is really just a number three wide receiver, leaving the team to still bring in at least one player that could be a number one going forward for this team.

Call me whatever you want, but the fact that the big name receivers have so far ignored Philadelphia is not a good sign. Without the addition of at least one talented wide receiver this offseason, the Eagles could once again find themselves in big trouble next season.
