Big 12 salutes Texas Tech baseball outfielder Damian Bravo

Texas Tech baseball center fielder Damian Bravo on Monday was named the Big 12 player of the week for his performance in the Red Raiders' series sweeps last week of Stanford and Houston.

Bravo went 13 for 23 with two home runs, eight runs batted in and 12 runs scored. He had multi-hit games in all five games, a two-game sweep of Stanford and a three-game sweep of Houston in a Big 12 series.

The sophomore from Haltom leads NCAA Division I in doubles with 19, including three more last week. He leads the Big 12 in batting average (.452), hits (56) and runs (45) and ranks second in RBI (39) and on-base percentage (.510).

Texas Tech (24-9, 8-7 in the Big 12) plays a road game at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday at Abilene Christian (19-13). The game, originally scheduled for Tuesday night, was pushed back a day because of rain in the Abilene forecast. The Red Raiders beat the Wildcats 9-4 in the first meeting between the two this season on March 19 in Lubbock.

Tech has won six games in a row and is among the teams receiving votes in this week's edition of the USA TODAY Sports Top 25 coaches poll. The Red Raiders moved up to No. 37 in the RPI, an index that weighs into consideration for the NCAA postseason.

The ACU trip is the first of six consecutive road games for Tech. The Red Raiders play at TCU (20-11, 5-10) at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday and take on No. 1 Arkansas (27-3) in a non-conference series at 7 p.m. April 16 and 4 p.m. April 17 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
