Best marching bands and student sections in the Montgomery-area high school football scene

High school football is a staple in the state of Alabama with its rich culture of recruits, legendary coaches and hall of fame players on the college and professional level.

Through the first five weeks of my first year covering high school sports in the Montgomery-area, the environment of Friday nights has been a sight to see. From the emphatic student sections, halftime band performances, and raucous crowds making the overall environment a fun experience.

Here's a list of the best halftime band performances and student sections that have amplified high school football games at the midseason point of the 2023 football season:

Carver Marching Band

The Carver High School marching band is a staple at every Wolverine game dazzling fans at the Crampon Bowl with their unique style of dance and music selection. Their cover of "Nevada" by Louisiana music artist Young Boy Never Broke Again excites the crowd at every game and unites both the younger and older generation of hip hop music fans in attendance.

Alabama Christian Marching Band

In a Week 3 matchup where Alabama Christian hosted Trinity it was the marching band that stole the show at halftime taking everyone back to their childhoods. They performed classic Disney songs from movies such as The Little Mermaid and Moana. In addition, they took us to a place very far away as they performed The Imperial March from Star Wars.

Saint James Student Section

Opening night in Week 0 saw the Saint James student section participating in their annual whiteout game as the Trojans hosted Montgomery Academy. The students were so loud at one point members of the teaching staff had to tell them to lower the volume. However, when hit song "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus played in the speakers the entire section erupted. They sang along and danced their way to a dominating victory to start the season.

Pike Road Student Section

It was Hawaiian shirt night in Pike Road's home opener against Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa. The student section brought the energy the entire game with multiple chants and dances. When Pike Road scored a touchdown the lights would turn off in the stadium and all the students would celebrate in a fashion that is incomparable. Pike Road's student section might be up there with some college student sections.
