MMA match immediately ends after nasty cut covers fighter's face in blood
The human body is capable of doing some terrible things.
A Bellator flyweight championship fight ended in sudden fashion Saturday night when women’s flyweight champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane elbowed challenger Veta Arteaga in the forehead and opened an enormous cut on her forehead.
What followed was a sickening amount of blood flowing onto Arteaga’s head which prompted a doctor stoppage with 3:10 left in the third round.

The bleeding looks even worse in photo form.
Arteaga had actually been winning on one judge’s card when the elbow landed, with the two others scoring it a tie at that point, so that’s a painful loss.
Once Arteaga’s face was cleaned up and bandaged, the 10-0 Macfarlane was declared champion yet again. After the fight, Macfarlane expressed strong interest in giving Arteaga a rematch. Considering how bizarrely that fight ended, Arteaga might deserve it.
Macfarlane says she’s giving Arteaga an immediate rematch. “For sure, I know exactly who’s next. Veta, let’s run it back, girl. You deserve it 100 percent.” #Bellator220

The loss brings Arteaga’s record as a pro fighter down to 5-3. It was also the first time in her career she lost a fight without finishing it.
