Bedford's girls basketball team wraps up at least a share title

TEMPERANCE — Bedford has its share.

The Mules wrapped up at least a share of the Southeastern Conference Red girls basketball championship with a 43-38 victory over Dexter on Tuesday night.

Bedford trailed 9-7 after one quarter, but tied the game 21-21 at the half before opening up a five-point lead in the third quarter.

“It was a gutsy effort tonight,” Bedford coach Bill Ryan said. “Our veterans were outstanding down the stretch on the defensive end. … Playing four games in five days affected our shooting, but we showed a lot of character and found a way to win.”

Victoria Gray had a big night for the Mules with a season-high 26 points to go along with 17 rebounds and seven blocked shots.

“Victoria was unstoppable in the paint,” Ryan said.
