Beavers card best round since 2019, lowest score since 2021 at SMSU invite
Mar. 6—LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. — The Bemidji State women's golf team made a 29-stroke improvement on the second day of the SMSU Spring Invitational and finished 10th of 12 teams in its first tournament of the 2024 spring season.
The Beavers finished the tournament at the Wigwam Resort Red Course with a team score of 683 (356-327), their lowest score of the season and lowest since 2021. Their round of 327 on day two was the lowest team round since 2019.
Senior Mollie Albrecht led the Beavers and tied for 27th individually by carding a score of 160 (82-78, +16), one stroke shy of a season-low two-round score. She was followed by freshmen Elli Anderson (91-83) and Haylee Kammann (94-80), who each who carded career lows of 174 with career-low rounds of 83 and 80, respectively, on the second day.
Senior Maddy Sawyer followed, trailing by just one stroke with a 175 (89-86), a season low for her. Sophomore Isabella Depew rounded out the Beavers' team score with a career-low score of 188 (94-94).
Junior Savannah Byfuglien and freshman Nakomis Mitchell competed as individuals at the tournament, with Byfuglien shooting a career-low 177 (88-89) and Mitchell carding a 198 (98-100).
The Beavers remain in Arizona and will turn around and compete in the SMSU Spring Challenge on Thursday and Friday at the Wigwam Resort Blue Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
