Bears select OL Ja’Tyre Carter with 226th overall pick in NFL draft

The Chicago Bears selected Southern offensive lineman Ja’Tyre Carter with the 226th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft.

The Bears continue to load up on the offensive line, as general manager Ryan Poles has now taken four offensive linemen on Day 3 of the draft.

Carter was a four-year starter at left tackle during his collegiate career, but he projects as a developmental guard at the NFL level. Last season, Carter allowed just three pressures in pass protection.

Here’s what NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein had to say about Carter:

Offensive line prospect with the frame, strength and grit to make a go of it moving from tackle to guard. Carter displays some technical savvy in certain areas, but needs much more work to get to where he needs to go. He lacks explosiveness and tends to lean on his ability to maul as a run blocker. If he can get his hands and pad level locked in, he’ll have a shot to become an NFL backup.

It took the Bears over three hours to make their first selection on Day 3 of the draft after Poles made several trades to turn three Day 3 picks into eight selections.

Chicago still has two picks left on Saturday, both seventh rounders at 254th and 255th.
