Baxter basketball scores sweep of Colo-NESCO

Dec. 2—COLO — Balanced scoring and a strong defensive effort propelled Baxter's boys basketball team to a road win over Colo-NESCO on Tuesday night.

Three Bolts scored in double figures and a fast start sent the visitors home with a 61-29 victory over the Royals during Iowa Star Conference South Division play.

Baxter led 14-2 after one quarter and went into halftime up 27-10. The Bolts outscored Colo-NESCO 20-7 in the third.

Carson Scroggins led Baxter (1-0 overall, 1-0 in the conference) with 13 points and six rebounds.

Treyton Travis had 11 points, three rebounds and two steals, Cody Damman registered 10 points, six boards, four assists and two steals and Trice Clapper collected eight points and six boards.

Nate McMinamen chipped in five points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks, Rory Heer put in six points and added two rebounds and two steals and Cael Shepley tallied four points, three rebounds and four steals. John Scroggins grabbed two boards.

The Bolts shot 45 percent from the floor despite making only 2-of-15 from 3-point range. They were 5-of-8 from the free-throw line and committed only six turnovers.

Colo-NESCO dropped to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

GIRLS

Baxter 61, Colo-NESCO 22

Elie Tuhn put in a career-best 26 points and the Bolts routed the Royals 61-22 on the road in their season-opening contest.

Baxter (1-0, 1-0) led Colo-NESCO in the conference opener 24-8 after one and 46-14 at halftime.

Tuhn hit three 3-pointers and was 7-of-9 from the foul line. Emie Tuhn hit three triples and scored 12 points in her varsity debut, while Lilie Vansice put in seven points, Bree Buswell scored six points and Mandee Selover added four points.

Ally Padget and Kendyl Stevenson each chipped in three points.

Colo-NESCO (0-3, 0-1) shot 27 percent from the floor and committed 31 turnovers.
