Basketball Recap: Quincy boys take down Mendon, Tekonsha girls fall to Pittsford

QUINCY – The Quincy varsity boys basketball program came through in the clutch in their non-conference battle with Mendon on Monday night, defending home court with the 56-46 win.

Both teams were hot from beyond the arc early, with the Hornets hitting three triples in the first quarter alone, building a 15-13 lead after one.

A 15-8 surge in the second quarter gave the Orioles control, building a 28-23 lead at the half.

The second half was a back-and-forth battle, with Quincy building a lead as big as six before Mendon closed in a hurry, bringing the score to within two points. The Orioles put the game away however with clutch shots from Alex Barry and Ryan Kempter, not to mention clutch free throw shooting from Grant Carter and Corey Turner, to ice the victory.

Grant Carter had a monster game to lead the Quincy attack, pouring in 19 points to go with four rebounds while Kempter added 11 points, four rebounds, and five assists.

Also adding to the Quincy effort was Alex Barry with six points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals; Clayton Benson with five points, five rebounds and two assists; Brandon Miner with five points and nine rebounds; and Corey Turner with five points.

Quincy improves to 6-4 overall with the win and will see their first look at the newest member of the Big 8 in Maple Valley on Thursday on the road.

In JV action it was Quincy rolling to a big 54-12 victory.

Quincy raced out to a big lead, holding Mendon to just two first half points, building a 30-2 lead at the break. The Orioles continued the onslaught in the second half, rolling to the 54-12 win.

The JV Orioles were led by Carson Haylett with 10 points and five rebounds, followed by Christian Craven with seven points, five rebounds, and three steals while Brennan Morrell added seven points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

Tekonsha girls' basketball falls to Pittsford

PITTSFORD – The Tekonsha Indian girls basketball team came into Tuesday’s contest versus Pittsford on a roll, hoping to extend their modest little win streak into one more game. It was not meant to be on this night however as it was Pittsford who took the victory, winning by the score of 48-22.

The key for Pittsford was their dominant defense, which held Tekonsha to zero points in the first quarter and only four first half points, giving the Wildcats a 29-4 lead at the break.

Tekonsha battled hard through the very end, playing Pittsford to a virtual second half stalemate, as the game ended at 48-22.

Tekonsha was led on the night by Hailey Owens with six points while the duo of Reagan Henry and Clara Wart added five points each.

Tekonsha falls to 2-5 overall on the season and will next see action Thursday when they travel to Camden Frontier.
