Baseball roundup: Lincoln doubles up Champaign Central, and other results from April 10-11

Here are the high school baseball results around Springfield from Wednesday and Thursday:

THURSDAY'S RESULTS

MOUNT PULASKI 10, MANITO MIDWEST CENTRAL 2: At Mount Pulaski, Luke Martin doubled and drove in three runs and the Hilltoppers scored six runs in the fifth inning to take control of the Tomahawk Conference win.

With Mount Pulaski leading 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Preston Cowan drew a two-out walk, Eric Cooper walked and Liam Smith was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Landon Smith then drove in two when he reached on an error to left field. Chance Payne walked to load the bases again before Martin doubled home both Smiths for an 8-2 lead. Tyler Cross then singled home two more runs for the final tallies for the Hilltoppers.

Cooper and Cross each had a pair of hits for Mount Pulaski.

ATHENS 7, RIVERTON 2: At Athens, Kyle Weatherford hit a go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the third inning and the Warriors recorded a Sangamo Conference win.

David Ishmael’s three-run triple in the fourth helped Athens (6-4 overall, 3-1 in Sangamo) tack on four more runs. Cody Tobias (two runs), Carson Moscardelli, Carson Reichart and Josh Harris had two hits each.

Moscardelli was the winning pitcher. He struck out five, walked three and gave up one hit and one run (none earned) in 4 1/3 innings.

LINCOLN 4, CHAMPAIGN CENTRAL 2: At Lincoln, the Railers scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning and pitcher Wyatt Mammen went the distance in a nonconference win.

Colbie Glenn started the third with a double and scored on a groundout by Michael Lucas. Trey Schilling scored on a wild pitch and Griffin Shaw singled in a run for a three-run Lincoln lead. Drew Hayes’ RBI groundout made it 4-0.

Mammen struck out nine, walked one and gave up four hits and two runs (one earned). Brenden Wurth doubled and finished 2-for-3.

PLEASANT PLAINS 5, PETERSBURG PORTA 0: At Petersburg, Plains pitcher Sean Lowder allowed just two hits in 5 2/3 innings and the Cardinals won a Sangamo Conference game.

Lowder struck out three and walked two. Plains (11-2 overall, 1-1 in Sangamo) took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Drew Green (1-for-2, two RBIs) in the first inning.

A sacrifice by Grady Grisham (2-for-3) plated two runs in the fifth and Grisham added an RBI single in the Cardinals’ two-run seventh.

WILLIAMSVILLE 15, AUBURN 0 (4 innings): At Williamsville, Josh Cates went 3-for-3, scored three runs and finished with five RBIs in the Bullets’ Sangamo Conference victory.

Cates doubled in two runs in a seven-run second inning and hit a three-run home run in the fourth. Nathan Simko also had three hits and delivered a three-run double. Kyle Carter (2-for-3, two RBIs) had a solo homer and Easton Blankenship concluded 2-for-3 with a double with two runs scored and an RBI.

Winning pitcher Joe Catalano allowed one hit, striking out six and walking two for Williamsville (9-5 overall, 3-0 in Sangamo).

GILLESPIE 15, CARLINVILLE 0 (4 innings): At Gillespie, Sean Haywood and Dawson Lancaster combined to strike out five and allow two hits and one walk as the Miners shut out the Cavaliers in a South Central Conference matchup.

Haywood got the win in 2 1/3 innings pitched. He struck out three, allowed two hits and one walk.

Bryce Hohnsbehn went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Miners and Colin Griffith drove in a pair, as did Haywood.

PAWNEE 3, RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 2: At Pawnee, Carson Wort scored on a walk-off wild pitch and the hosts nipped the Lancers in an MSM Conference game.

Pawnee (13-3 overall, 6-1 in MSM) led 1-0 in the fourth when Hunter Barber ripped an RBI triple. Lincolnwood took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on RBI singles by Mason Tryon and Jonah Elvidge (2-for-3). Pawnee evened the score when Wort scored on a passed ball.

Jacob Butler pitched a complete game to earn the win. Butler struck out five, walked one and allowed four hits and two runs (zero earned).

JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 16, CARROLLTON 6 (6 innings): At Jacksonville, Conrad Charpentier went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run and Brady Turner drove in four and doubled as the Rockets cruised to a win.

Routt’s Nolan Turner also went 3-for-4 with a double. He and Charpentier each scored four runs.

Talon Thompson had a pair of doubles for the Rockets (13-5).

NOKOMIS 18, LUTHERAN 0 (4 innings): At Lutheran, Conner Wilson homered, went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs in Nokomis’ MSM Conference win.

Wilson’s two-run homer in the top of the second put Nokomis up 8-0. Later that inning, Izaak Doyen homered to put Nokomis in charge 13-0.

Brenton Lyons was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Nokomis (8-7).

Bryce Gillock struck out four in 2 2/3 innings pitched to get the win.

MAROA-FORSYTH 20, NEW BERLIN 10 (6 innings): At Maroa, the two teams combined for 29 hits and the Trojans won a Sangamo Conference game.

Maroa-Forsyth finished with nine extra base hits and Andy Munjoy homered and went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs. Kaiden Maurer tripled and had three hits and two RBIs in the leadoff spot.

Lucas Bixby was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored three runs, while Rockman Prince had two hits and three RBIs for New Berlin.

BREESE MATER DEI 11, HILLSBORO 10: At Breese, Hillsboro scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning, but the rally fell short in a nonconference defeat.

Hillsboro scored three runs on two errors in the seventh until Breese ended the game on a groundout.

Nathan Matoush had a solo home run and finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored, and Jace Stewart (2-for-5) also homered for Hillsboro. Elliot Lentz ended 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

WEDNESDAY'S RESULTS

CHATHAM GLENWOOD 3, JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 2: At Chatham, in a match among two of the best teams in The State Journal-Register's coverage area, Alex Chopra and Dylan Huff combined to strike out seven, allow three hits, four walks and two runs in the nonconference win.

Huff earned the win with five strikeouts in four innings. Chopra got the save by fanning two hitters in three innings.

Glenwood’s Cru Erickson went 2-for-3 with a double while teammate Rigley Hickman also had a two-bagger.

Huff and Krayton Reincke each had RBIs for the Titans.

Nolan Turner, Conrad Charpentier and Talon Thompson had singles for Routt. Thompson and Jace Lautemann also drove in runs for the Rockets.

JACKSONVILLE 5, SPRINGFIELD HIGH 2: At Jacksonville, Cody Fry broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run single in the bottom of the sixth to push the Crimsons past the Senators in a Central State Eight Conference game.

Jacksonville’s Sam Lockman was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the sixth. Pinch runner Gavin Jackson moved to second as Hayden Hicks was awarded first on a catcher’s interference call. Anderson Decker moved Jackson and Hicks to second and third, respectively, on a sacrifice bunt. Nolan Peters drew a two-out walk to load the bases before Fry singled to right field to plate Jackson, Hicks and Peters for the lead.

Fry was 3-for-4 while Joe Reif went 2-for-4 for the Crimsons. Lockman also drove in a run for JHS (9-3 overall, 2-2 CS8).

Ryan Luconic struck out six Senators over 6 2/3 innings pitched for the win. He allowed six hits, one walk and one earned run.

Enrico Veach led Springfield High with two hits, including a double, and a pair of runs. Seth Impson drove in a run on a sac fly.

EDWARDSVILLE 15, SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 7: At Edwardsville, Tye Springer drove in three runs without a hit in the Cyclones’ nonconference loss.

Springer walked once and scored a run. He also had two sacrifice flies.

Charlie Linderman had two hits and a triple while Jake Kepler had a pair of singles and stole two bases for the Cyclones.

Thomas Lauterbach drew three walks. SHG was issued 10 bases on balls.

LANPHIER 17, DECATUR EISENHOWER 5: At Decatur, the Lions’ No. 9 hitter Adam McCloughlan drove in three runs to lead the Lions to a nonconference win.

Charlie Friedrich was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, Josh Blisset added a pair of RBIs, Zach Standridge doubled and Charlie Ramirez finished with one hit, two walks and three runs scored.

WILLIAMSVILLE 11, BUFFALO TRI-CITY 0 (5 innings): At Williamsville, Kyle Carter went 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored in the Bullets’ nonconference win.

Easton Blankenship was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Joe Catalano tripled for the Bullets. Braylon Singer struck out six and walked two to get the win over 2 2/3 innings pitched.

Jackson Nibbe had the Tornadoes’ only hit.

Williamsville jumped out early with a six-run bottom of the first.

MOUNT PULASKI 7, ARGENTA-OREANA 4: At Mount Pulaski, Luke Martin fanned 11 Bombers to stymie the visitors in a nonconference win.

Martin allowed four runs — only one earned — on two hits and three walks for the complete-game win.

Hilltoppers’ junior Liam Smith doubled as part of his two-hit effort and drove in a run. Chance Payne, Tyler Cross, Franklin Wade and Kolin Gibbs all drove in runs for the Hilltoppers.

TAYLORVILLE 4, MOWEAQUA CENTRAL A&M 2 (3 innings): At Moweaqua, Taylorville leadoff hitter Baron Odam doubled, drove in a run and scored once in the Tornadoes’ nonconference win.

Maxx Grieme, Isaac Repscher and Clark Durbin also had RBIs for Taylorville.

Repscher struck out four in three innings pitched.

BEARDSTOWN 11, RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 5: At Rushville, Gustavo Cortes went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a run scored and drew two walks in the Tigers’ win.

Tannar Riddell also had a pair of hits for Beardstown.

Bennett Fretueg was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Rockets.

EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 14, CARLINVILLE 4 (5 innings): At Wood River, Noah Byots and Mason Wise each had two hits in the Cavaliers’ nonconference win.

Camden Naugle, Bryce Widner and Konner Costello all had an RBI for Carlinville.

GLASFORD ILLINI BLUFFS 13, ATHENS 3 (5 innings): At Glasford, Davis Ishmael doubled and Cody Tobias scored twice in a Tomahawk Conference loss.

Brady Shipp singled and drove in a run for the Warriors.
