Bartlesville gymnasts make golden haul

Oklahoma, where the waving Weikle soars so sweet as she racks up piles of points.

Perhaps that’s not much of an ode, but then it’s hard to put into words the impact so far this competitive season by Lorelei Weikle of the Bartlesville Gymnastics Club (BGC).

Weikle recently topped all Sooner High representatives at the out-of-state National Judges Cup meet. She led all Oklahoma gymnasts in points as she finished third on the vault (9.5), third on the uneven bars (9.575), eighth on the floor exercise (9.525) and third All-Around (38.225) in Level 7.

“The Oklahoma judges were thrilled to have Lorelei competing as she was one of the top Level 7’s in the entire competition,” said Lorrie Bertolet, the top BGC administrator and head coach. “She made Bartlesville gymnastics proud with her nearly perfect competition.”

Next up, the BGC entered several girls for last weekend’s Aim High, I Have A Dream Championship meet, held in Tulsa (Cox Convention Center). More than 1,000 gymnasts from throughout the U.S. competed. The BGC brought home 13 individual event gold medals and three All-Around championships.

At Level 6, Brooklyn Sylvester displayed cat-like grace and balance to grab three gold medals — the balance beam (9.70), the bars (9.425) and the floor (9.525) on her way to scoring a career-high 37.825 All-Around points. Rylee Laxson of the Excel Gold team harvested the beam gold (9.6), a career-high score.

Daisha Davis (Excel Gold), delivered a shining performance by winning the All-Around (37.975), the vault (9.725), bars (9.5) and floor (9.6). Also earning spotlights were Kinlee Littleford (Level 9, vault-gold), Isa Highfield (Level 10, beam-gold, floor-silver) and Harper Maudlin (Level 7, beam-gold).

“I could not be more excited about this season and talented athletes that we have,” Bertolet said. “But, even more important than talent is their work ethic and how they train. The camaraderie and support these gymnasts give to each other bring me pure joy.”
