Cardinals' promising start leads to more disappointment with loss to Ravens

Look back at coverage as the Arizona Cardinals hosted the Baltimore Ravens.

Woes continue as Arizona Cardinals lose to Ravens

The Arizona Cardinals (1-7) scored first and last, but got little in between during a 31-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens (6-2) on Sunday at State Farm Stadium.

The offense continued to struggle with quarterback Josh Dobbs throwing a pair of interceptions.

He finished the game 25-for-36 for 208 yards with two touchdowns. Dobbs added 26 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries. On the receiving end of the Dobbs' touchdown passes were TE Trey McBride and WR Marquise "Hollywood" Brown.

Emari Demercado led Arizona with 20 carries for 78 yards.

The game wasn't without some excitement as the Cardinals recovered an on-side kick with 1:14 to play and trailing by 10.

The kicked ball struck a Ravens player and was recovered by Owen Pappoe for the Cardinals.

Matt Prater kicked a 47-yard field goal with 26 seconds remaining for the final score. The final on-side kick attempt was recovered by Baltimore.

Ravens tack on another TD

With less than 3 minutes on the clock, the Ravens added to their point total with a Gus Edwards 1-yard run.

The play was set up by a pass interference call assessed against the Cardinals. Since the foul came in the end zone, the Ravens got the ball on the Cardinals 1.

The Ravens were also helped by a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty against the Cardinals.

The touchdown was Edwards' third of the game. He has 19 carries for 80 yards.

Cardinals get back in the game

It took a gang of roughly seven players to get the Cardinals second TD of the game.

Joshua Dobbs passed to Trey McBride, who got help from a group of teammates when he was about to stall short of the end zone. McBrides's teammates began pushing the pack from behind.

Dobbs ran for a two-point conversion to make the score 24-15 Ravens.

McBride has six catches for 41 yards.

Dobbs is 16-for-24 for 122 yards with two interceptions to go with the touchdown.

Ravens extend lead over Cardinals

Justin Tucker kicked a 48-yard field goal to extended the Ravens lead over the Cardinals to 24-7.

Arizona has not scored since its opening possession. The Cardinals led 7-0 at that point.

Tucker's field goal came after a 37-yard drive that stalled at the Arizona 30.

On to the fourth quarter

The Cardinals gave the Ravens their best starting field position of the game when Joshua Dobbs' pass was intercepted at the Arizona 24.

It was the first play off a possession that followed a Baltimore punt.

After the interception, the Ravens needed just three plays to get into the end zone.

Gus Edwards ran the ball on consecutive plays and covered 13 yards, including the final 7 for a touchdown.

Edwards now has 10 carries for 40 yards and two touchdowns.

Dobbs is 10-for-17 for 60 yards with two interceptions.

Fumble and punt

Blake Gillikin was brought in to punt on a fourth-and-36 from the Arizona 12. The 66-yard punt flipped the field, but it was a position the Cardinals could have avoided entirely.

Quarterback Joshua Dobbs fumbled for a loss of 15-yards. The ball was initially recovered by the Ravens, but fumbled again and recovered by Hjalte Froholdt.

The punt was a career-best for Gillikin.

Cardinals-Ravens numbers at the half

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is 12-for-18 for 116 yards and a touchdown. He has been sacked once. Gus Edwards leads the Ravens with 20 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries.

Cardinals QB Joshua Dobbs is 8-for-12 for 55 yards with an interception. Emari Demercado is the team's leading rusher with 14 carries for 60 yards.

Kyzir White has five tackles for the Cardinals, while Dante Stills recorded the team's only sack.

Interception leads to Ravens TD

With 2 minutes to play in the first half, Arizona QB Joshua Dobbs' pass intended for Michael Wilson was intercepted by Baltimore at the Arizona 47.

Cardinals lose 4th-down gamble... again

If losing one gamble wasn't bad enough, the Cardinals doubled down.

This time on a fourth-and-1 from the Baltimore 35, the Cardinals put the ball in the hands of Emari Demercado, who was stopped at the line. The play was reviewed and upheld, although the crowd disagreed. You can judge for yourself.

Once more, the Cardinals' loss was tempered by a Baltimore punt.

Cardinals lose 4th down-gamble

Facing a fourth-and-1 from the Baltimore 44, the Cardinals attempted a pass. The throw to Marquise "Hollywood" Brown fell incomplete and the Raves took over on downs.

With the team's success giving the ball to Josh Dobbs at the 1 for a touchdown in the first quarter, one has to wonder why the Cardinals didn't opt for a QB carry.

Either way, the Ravens didn't have the ball long a missed 53-field goal attempt turned the ball over to the Cardinals on downs at the Arizona 43.

Cardinals-Ravens tied at 7 after first quarter

After the Cardinals scores on their first possession, the Ravens quickly returned the favor.

Aided by a pass interference flag against the Cardinals, Baltimore covered 75 yards with 10 plays in 5:27.

Lamar Jackson's 5-yard pass to Mark Andrews completed the drive. Twice the Ravens were able to convert on third down.

Kicking it off

Arizona received the opening kickoff. Quarterback Joshua Dobbs got the start, which could be he final one as Kyler Murray is expected to return soon.

It looked like the Cardinals would go three-and-out, but an illegal contact penalty against the Ravens gave Arizona an automatic first down. That call was just the beginning.

Arizona used 12 plays to march 75 yards for the game's first touchdown. The Cardinals also got some help with a pass interference call on a third-and-4 pass to the end zone.

Dobbs' rush for 1 yard up the middle put the points on the board after the penalty moved the ball to the 1. The point after made it 7-0 Cardinals
