Auburn wide receiver signing with the Seahawks as undrafted free agent

It wasn’t the ideal scenario for Auburn wide receiver Demetris Robertson. However, it all panned out for the Georgia native on Saturday afternoon. Bennett Durando, a beat writer for Montgomery Advertiser, reported that Demetris Robertson was heading to the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent.

Originally, Robertson came out of high school as a five-star. The product of Savannah Christian Prep chose the University of Cal-Berkeley over programs like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Notre Dame. His recruitment was prolonged up until the month of May when he chose the Golden Bears.

He spent two seasons at Cal-Berkeley. He hauled in 57 receptions for 837 yards and seven touchdowns. After the 2017 season concluded, he decided to transfer to Georgia. He would go on to spend the next two seasons in Athens with the Bulldogs. In the two seasons that he played for Kirby Smart, he recorded 42 receptions for 443 yards and three touchdowns.

They always say that the third time is a charm. Well, that may have been the case with Robertson. He would transfer to Auburn after the 2020 season ended. In his lone season on the Plains, he hauled in 37 receptions for 489 yards and four touchdowns. He also returned 12 punts for 89 total yards.

After not hearing his name called in the 2022 NFL Draft, it didn’t take long for one team to call his name, the Seattle Seahawks. He will join Pete Caroll’s team as an undrafted free agent. His role will likely be on special teams early on as he develops the necessary skills to possibly receive playing time at the wide receiver position. After a tumultuous college career, Robertson will look to get off to a good start in the league.
