Auburn reaches out to premier guard from Horizon League
On Friday, basketball analyst Jeff Goodman reported that more than a handful of schools had reached out to Detroit transfer Antoine Davis. One of the programs that reached out to Davis was Auburn.
Several other programs that have reached out thus far are Kentucky, Kansas, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, and Purdue.
Davis is of Alabama legacy. His father Mike Davis, played for Alabama from 1979 to 1983. His father was also the head coach at UAB and Indiana. Currently, he is the head coach of Detroit Mercy. It certainly isn’t every day that a son leaves the same program that his dad coaches for. However, if you saw Davis’s stats, you would see why.
Over the past four seasons, he has averaged 24.6 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game, and 4.3 assists per game. He ranks as the No. 22 scorer in college basketball history according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.
His numbers definitely speak for themselves. With “blue-blood” teams likely going to enter the conversation to land Davis, it is important for Auburn to get a head start. Bruce Pearl and his staff could use a scorer and facilitator like Davis. Over the course of four years with Detroit Mercy, he has scored a total of 2,437 points. He also shot 40.6% from the field.

The Tigers are returning guards Wendell Green Jr., Zep Jasper, and K.D. Johnson. They are also bringing in Tre Donaldson who can also play one of the guard positions.
It would be a huge boost to the Tigers’ roster if they could land Davis. It is early in his recruitment process, but the Tigers should definitely feel good about themselves.
They have both Jared Harper and Sharife Cooper who have both played minutes on NBA teams. Bruce Pearl could use that to sway Davis. The potential to have an even stronger roster in 2022 is looking good especially if Davis were to commit. He is an instant starter and may very well take the SEC by storm in Bruce Pearl’s system.
