Auburn Morning Rush: Tigers make the cut for 5-star PF, baseball drops series and more

Ron Holland is one of the best basketball recruits in the country and on Sunday he announced his top destinations. And to the shock of no one Auburn made the cut.

Bruce Pearl and Co. have Auburn recruiting at unprecedented levels and Holland is the latest example of that.

One young Auburn fan had the day of a lifetime in Miami as the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Miami Police Department made him a member of the “Bad Boys” for the day.

Unfortunately for Auburn fans, it was not all good news on Sunday. Auburn baseball lost to Arkansas in the final game of the series and softball dropped the final game of the regular season against Tennessee.

Here is a collection of the top stories around Auburn on Sunday to start your morning.

Auburn basketball is recruiting like never before and they are going after another five-star recruit.

[autotag]Ron Holland[/autotag] is a top 10 recruit in the 2023 recruiting class and he announced his top eight destinations Sunday night. The 6-foot-eight power forward will decide between Auburn, Arkansas, Kentucky, Houston, Memphis, Texas, UCLA, and the G-League.

Holland is ranked as the No. 9 overall recruit and No. 3 power forward in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is from Duncanville, Texas, and is the No. 1 recruit from the Lone Star State.

Auburn is still looking for its first commitment for the 2023 recruiting class and Holland would be a great start.

An Auburn fan got to live out his dream this weekend.

The Miami Police Department and the Make-A-Wish Foundation teamed up to give a 16-year-old boy going through chemo a day as a member of the “Bad Boys” movies.

Larry Smith, the boy’s uncle, told News 7 Miami that his nephew watched the movies every day at the hospital and at home. The two organizations treated him to a police motorcade, toured several locations where the movie was filmed, and even shut down the MacArthur Causeway so he could take a picture with the film’s director Michael Bay.

“We are seven months in remission right now, and we’re going to beat it,” Smith said. “This is his first trip anywhere, just, we’re out here to have a good time.”

The regular season came to a disappointing close Sunday for the Tigers as they fell to Tennessee 3-1 in the series finale.

Freshman Jessie Blaine put Auburn on the board in the top of the seventh with a solo home run and Bri Ellis doubled to keep the threat going. Auburn was unable to move any closer as Tennessee retired the next two batters in order.

With the loss, Auburn fell to 39-14 overall and 11-13 in the SEC and is set to enter the SEC Tournament as the 10th seed. They will face the seventh seed on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. ET in Gainesville, Florida.

Auburn stormed out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but the Razorbacks answered back in the second and third inning to take a 5-2 lead and never looked back.

After hitting two homers and four hits total in the first three innings Auburn (32-16, 13-11 SEC) bats went silent the rest of the game. They managed just three more hits and lost 7-4. The Tigers will look to pick up a win Thursday against Troy before hosting Alabama for the final SEC series at PLainsman Park this season.
