Jake Crandall/The Montgomery Advertiser

[autotag]Sal Cannella[/autotag] had hopes of continuing his football career following his two-year stint at Auburn. Through hard work and patience, he now has a shot to prove his worth in the NFL.

Bill Huber of SI.com reports that the former Auburn tight end has signed a deal with the Green Bay Packers to round out their 90-man roster.

After going undrafted in 2020 and failing to earn a roster spot with the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears as a Free Agent, Cannella found solid ground in the USFL as a member of the New Orleans Breakers. During the 2022 season, Cannella made the All-USFL team by reeling in 34 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns, a stat line that possibly revamped his career.

Cannella transferred into Auburn following one season at Scottsdale CC in Arizona. In three seasons on the Plains, Cannella played in 19 games, catching 25 passes for 330 yards and five touchdowns.
