Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl discusses future of Allen Flanigan

ATLANTA — Auburn basketball wing Allen Flanigan will graduate this summer and then weigh his options, coach Bruce Pearl said at an AMBUSH event Tuesday evening.

"In Al's case, he's already declared twice," Pearl explained, referring to Flanigan declaring for the NBA Draft in 2021 and 2022 before deciding to return to the Tigers each year. "You can't declare a third time. If you do, you have to stay in the draft, so there's no reason for him to declare anything."

Flanigan, who appeared in 34 games at Auburn last season and made 19 starts, averaged 10.1 points per game on 44.2% shooting. He can return to the Tigers for a fifth season, enter the transfer portal or turn pro.

Three Tigers have already publicly declared for the draft in Jaylin Williams, Wendell Green Jr. and Johni Broome. Yohan Traore, Chance Westry and Babatunde Akingbola have entered the transfer portal, and Zep Jasper, a starter at Auburn for the last two seasons, has run out of eligibility, placing Pearl's roster in a state of flux.

He's already added Chaney Johnson (UAH) and Denver Jones (Florida International) from the portal, and expects to add "at least one, maybe two more."

"The landscape has changed tremendously," Pearl said. "It's changed for everybody; we're all in the same boat."

Flanigan's father, Wes Flanigan, was on Pearl's staff for the last five seasons before he reportedly left to join Chris Beard at Ole Miss earlier this month: "I just think everybody has got to do what's best for themselves and what's best for their families," Pearl said of his assistant's departure. "We appreciated Wes' time at Auburn."
