Astoria baseball celebrates their win against Tillamook on Thursday.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Fishermen battled their way back to take a 3-1 lead. The Cheesemakers tied things up in the top of the fifth, only to see Astoria score two runs of their own in the bottom half to retake the lead, 5-3.

Tillamook got one run back in the top of the sixth, and had a rally going in the top of the seventh. However, strong defense by the Fishermen helped Colton Gustafson close out the game in the top of the seventh.

Joey Gramlich was the winning pitcher once again for the Fishermen, as he grinded out a sixth inning quality start. Gramlich saw 10 runners in total reach base against him, but he only allowed three to score.

Gramlich had help from his defense throughout the game. Left fielder Patrick Anderson and center fielder Garrett Hillard made a number of nice catches in the outfield. Anderson, in particular, made one up against the wall in the first inning and a sliding catch in foul territory in the seventh to preserve the Fishermen’s lead.
