Manchester United win at Aston Villa via more late Scott McTominay magic

Scott McTominay came off the bench to again deliver Manchester United heroics in a 2-1 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday.

The Red Devils are now on a season-best three-match Premier League winning streak, and there was no shortage of drama on the journey to the final whistle.

Rasmus Hojlund put United ahead early by scoring in his fifth-straight Premier League outing, but Douglas Luiz snapped Villa level after halftime.

McTominay got the last marker of the game, heading home a Diogo Dalot cross in the 86th minute in a game with nearly 40 shot attempts.

The win boosts the sixth-place Red Devils to 41 points, five behind Villa and six off fourth-place Tottenham.

The slumping Villans were quite lively on the day but have been out-of-sorts for some time, booted from the FA Cup at midweek and only boasting wins over Sheffield United and Burnley since Boxing Day.

Unai Emery's men peaked at second on the table after Week 20, but their 46 points now have them fifth.

What’s next?

Aston Villa hits the road to face Fulham at Craven Cottage at 10am ET Saturday, then Manchester United go to Luton Town at 11:30am ET Sunday.
