Assumption, Mercy advance in KHSAA state volleyball tournament; quarterfinal matches set
The Assumption High School and Mercy Academy volleyball teams won first-round matches Monday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Tournament.
Assumption cruised to a 25-6, 25-14, 25-16 victory at Oldham County.
Second-ranked Assumption (33-5) advanced to face Whitley County (35-2) at 1:30 p.m. Friday in a state quarterfinal at George Rogers Clark High School.
Oldham County finished 24-13.
No. 20 Mercy pulled out a 25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 20-25, 15-8 victory over visiting Central Hardin.
Mercy (21-20) will face No. 23 Boyd County (33-6) at 11 a.m. Friday in a state quarterfinal.
No. 7 Central Hardin finished 36-5.
