Arrow squads play final home matches at Allen Mitchell FIeld, ANZA Soccer Complex

WATERTOWN — Watertown High School's girls and boys soccer teams recorded a win and a draw in their final regular-season home matches of the season on Friday.

Playing on the turf at Allen Mitchell Field, the Arrow girls (3-9-1 overall and 3-5 in the Eastern South Dakota Conference) rolled to a 7-0 win over Huron (0-10, 0-6).

The Arrow boys (6-4-3 and 3-3-2) battled back from a 3-0 deficit to notch a 3-3 with Huron (3-6-2, 2-3-1) in a match that was played under the lights on the grass at the ANZA Soccer Complex.

Aspen Reynolds recorded her second hat track of the season to lead the Arrow girls. She has a team-leading eight goals on the season. Katie Fischer, Mya York, Marina Lopez and Harper Hendricks each also scored for coach Emily Trupe's squad. Fischer has six goals and four assists this season.

Fischer, Makenna Blank and Brooklyn Randall each had assists. Madison Enstad played the first half and York the second half in net for Watertown. York made four saves. Watertown finished with 50 shots, 30 on goal.

Things didn't go as smoothly for the Arrow boys, who trailed 2-0 at the half and 3-0 early in the second half before scoring three goals in the final 22 minutes.

"It was great to fight back and not give up, but we just need to start faster," said Watertown boys coach Jesse Hauck. "As the coach, I need to alter my pre-game warmup to get our boys starting quicker."

Skylar Stanton scored two goals and Braxten Endres one for Watertown. Endres shares the team lead in goals with RIley Fischer (six each). Stanton now has five goals. Owen Muller made six saves in net.

The Arrow teams end their regular seasons on Saturday, Sept. 30 when they visit Tea Area. The girls are slated to play at 1 p.m. and the boys at 3 p.m.

Aberdeen Central Soccer

YANKTON — Aberdeen Central's squads split Eastern South Dakota Conference matches against Yankton on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles (8-2 overall and 5-1 in the ESD) won the girls' match 4-0. Yankton defeated Aberdeen Central (6-4, 4-2) by a 4-1 margin in the boys' match.

Deshani Peters scored two goals and Lauren Joosten and Taylor Lyke each one for Aberdeen Central's girls. Peters, Joosten and Abby Witte each added assists. Ciara Frank made two saves.

Taylor Bain scored the lone goal for Aberdeen Central's boys.

Aberdeen Central hosts Mitchell on Tuesday. The girls play at 4 p.m. and the boys at 6 p.m.

Watertown Cheer and Dance

HARRISBURG — Watertown High School's competitive cheer and dance squads didn't compete in the Harrisburg Invitational on Saturday.

The Arrows were scheduled to compete, but didn't because of being short-handed due to some illnesses.

The Watertown teams will compete in the Mitchell Invitational on Thursday, Oct. 5.

Milbank Tennis

MILBANK — Milbank High School's girls tennis team closed out its regular season by splitting two duals in a home triangular on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs (2-12 in duals) beat Lennox 8-1 and lost to Aberdeen Roncalli 6-3. They will compete in the state Class A tournament on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 2-3 at Sioux Falls.

Hope Karels (10-5 at No. 1 singles), Jenna Korstjens (10-6 at No. 3 singles), Amelia Pederson (10-1 at No. 4 singles), Caitlyn Frerichs (10-7 at No. 5 singles) and Jericho Jones (10-6 at No. 6 singles) each posted wins against Lennox. Karels and Ashlynn Lamp won 10-9 (7-4) at No. 1 doubles and Payton Lamp-Charlotte Swanson 10-7 at No. 3 doubles.

Against Roncalli, Korstjens won 10-9 (7-5), Pederson 10-4 and Jones 10-5 in singles for Milbank.
