Armysaysit won't host Connecticut-New York high school football all-star game

Jul. 28—Army deputy athletic director Dan McCarthy said Friday that there is no deal to play at Michie Stadium and, to his knowledge, NCAA rules might not allow it.

"I can tell you with 100% certainty that we're not hosting the game," McCarthy said.

He said he had conversations with the New York State High School Football Coaches Association and said there were "lots of hurdles" to clear if an all-star game were to happen at Michie Stadium.

West Point remains at the top of the wish list, Connecticut High School Coaches Association executive director Joe Canzanella said, and he was hopeful something could be worked out, but he confirmed he was told that a deal isn't done.

In the meantime, he said, other sites in both states were in consideration.

Michie Stadium, one of the most venerable fields in college football and celebrating its 100th season this fall, was expected to be a major draw to get players for the event.

"I think one of the greatest things that we have going for us right now is we have a commitment to play at West Point," Al Paturzo, president of the New York State High School Football Coaches Association, said Wednesday at the press conference in Wethersfield. "For our kids to play at West Point, that is a great thing."

At least for now, they'll have to play somewhere else.
