Arkansas vs. LSU live score, updates, highlights from Week 4 college football game

Arkansas football hits the road for the first time in 2023 to square off against longtime rival LSU in the Battle for the Golden Boot on Saturday night.

The Razorbacks and Tigers are both 2-1 on the season. Arkansas is coming off a home loss to BYU, while No. 12 LSU cruised past Mississippi State in Week 3. The Tigers' lone loss of the season was a Week 1 defeat to No. 4 Florida State.

Beginning with this Saturday’s game in Baton Rouge, the Razorbacks will open SEC play with four consecutive games away from the friendly confines of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. This season marks the first time that Arkansas has played its first four conference games away from home in 98 years. It last happened in 1925, when the Razorbacks were members of the Southwest Conference.

KJ Jefferson has completed 55-of-71 (71.4%) passes for 629 yards and six touchdowns while also running for 80 yards and a touchdown through the Razorbacks’ first three games of the season. Jefferson, who has thrown for a touchdown in each of his last 14 games played, ranks second on Arkansas’ career touchdown responsibility list with 74.

Arkansas football vs. LSU live updates, highlights

Fourth Quarter

  • FINAL: LSU 34, Arkansas 31. Final play ends in an interception from Jefferson. Tough loss for the Hogs, while the Tigers move to 2-0 in the SEC.

  • Field Goal LSU, 0:05. The Tigers marched straight down the field and set up a chip shot field goal from Damian Ramos. Tigers lead 34-31 and Arkansas looks destined for another crushing defeat.

  • Touchdown Arkansas, 5:06. The Hogs just won't die. A roughing the passer penalty on third down saves the Arkansas drive, and Jefferson finds Hasz for another score on the next play. The freshman tight end now has six catches, 116 yards and two touchdowns. All tied, 31-31, with 5:06 remaining.

  • Touchdown LSU, 9:43. Another clinic of a drive ends with Daniels-to-Nabers for six points. Singletary was beaten for a third touchdown tonight in what's been a rough outing for the Georgia transfer. Arkansas trails 31-25 and needs another response from the offense.

  • Touchdown Arkansas, 14:11. KJ Jefferson avoids pressure, rolls to his right and finds freshman tight end Luke Hasz wide open down the sideline for a 59-yard score. Hogs go for two, get called for false start, but still convert as Jefferson finds Hasz again. Terrific resiliency by Arkansas, and this game is tied 24-24.

  • Abysmal start to the 4Q for Arkansas. Two false starts, a pressure on KJ Jefferson and now the third-and-final timeout is used by Coach Pittman.

Third Quarter

  • We will head to the fourth quarter with LSU leading 24-16. Critical offensive possession here for Arkansas.

  • Touchdown LSU, 1:40. The Tigers made that drive look easy. No impact from the Arkansas defensive line as LSU goes 75 yards in nine plays and finishes with an eight-yard score from Malik Nabers. That's three-straight touchdown drives for LSU, who leads 24-16 late in the third.

  • Field Goal Arkansas, 5:44. A crazy drive that involved a successful fake field goal ends with a 40-yard kick from Cam Little. The Hogs offense once again struggled in the red zone, but they chipped away at the LSU lead, which is now 17-16.

  • Touchdown LSU, 14:00. And just like that, LSU leads 17-13. Daniels took advantage of a free play as Arkansas jumped offsides, finding Thomas Jr. for another score. Singletary beat again in coverage, but hard to tell if he just fell asleep with the flag.

Second Quarter

  • HALFTIME: Arkansas 13, LSU 10. Harold Perkins sacks KJ Jefferson on the final play of the half. Tough close for the Hogs, who were so good defensively until the late LSU score, but they will gladly take a halftime lead into the locker room.

  • Touchdown LSU 0:30. Three plays. Eighteen seconds. LSU responds quickly as Jayden Daniels hits Brian Thomas Jr. for a 49-yard score. Jaheim Singletary was beat on that long pass down the right side.

  • Touchdown Arkansas, 0:48. What a catch by Tyrone Broden for his first Arkansas score. KJ Jefferson found Broden in the corner of the end zone, who fought through a pass interference penalty to make a one-handed grab. Hogs lead 13-3, and Death Valley is stunned.

  • Devon Manuel has played the last three drives at left tackle, and he looks good. Manuel beat Harold Perkins on a third down rep that allowed Jefferson to find Andrew Armstrong and keep the drive alive. Hogs at the LSU 20 with one minute remaining.

  • Field Goal LSU, 4:02. Arkansas' defense responds with a stop on a goal-to-go situation. On third down, Al Walcott got great pressure before Jaheim Thomas and Cam Ball finished off the sack. Hogs lead 6-3 with the first half inching toward the finish line.

  • Field Goal Arkansas, 6:33. Another great drive ends with just three points for the Razorbacks. The offensive line has been pretty good tonight, but it got beat in the goal-to-go scenario. Little makes another 23-yard field goal and the Hogs lead 6-0.

  • A really nice PBU now from Jaheim Singletary to stop a big LSU gain. The three outside cornerbacks — McGlothern, Singletary and Braxton — have all made important plays now in the secondary. That's a great sign for the Razorbacks.

First Quarter

  • The first quarter ends, and Arkansas leads 3-0. Tigers driving at the Razorbacks' 39-yard line when the second period begins. Jaylon Braxton with a really nice PBU against Malik Nabers to stop an LSU touchdown just before the end of the first period.

  • KJ Jefferson gifts it right back to LSU with an interception. Andre Sam with the pick, and it was a telegraphed pass from Jefferson.

  • Dwight McGlothern interception. Tremendous play by the LSU transfer to come off his assignment, jump the route and give Arkansas an extra possession. LSU was driving, but now the Razorbacks have the ball at their own 45.

  • Field Goal Arkansas, 5:56. Cam Little makes a 23-yard field goal and gives the Razorbacks a 3-0 lead, but it should have been more. Luke Hasz made an incredible catch and got Arkansas down to the one-yard line before a false start penalty on third down.

  • LSU also goes three-and-out to start the game. Pretty good job by the Arkansas defensive line on that first possession, but Jayden Daniels missed a wide open Malik Nabers on third down. Arkansas will start its second possession from its own 44.

  • Arkansas goes three-and-out on its first possession. Tyrone Broden got a pair of targets on the opening series, with one catch and one drop. Good punt by Max Fletcher and LSU takes over at its own 14.

Pregame

  • LSU wins the toss and defers to the second half. Arkansas will get the ball first, and Death Valley is starting to percolate with electricity.

  • Arkansas captains tonight are Landon Jackson, Trajan Jeffcoat, KJ Jefferson and Cam Little. The last time Little was here, he made a game-winning field goal in overtime.

  • Arkansas running back Rocket Sanders will miss a third consecutive game after not traveling with the team to LSU. Sanders practiced some this week, but he was also limited in reps during the media portion viewing Monday and Tuesday.

  • ESPN's Pete Thamel reported Saturday morning that LSU would be without starting linebacker Omar Speights tonight.
